Activities at Hunters Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters.  I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity.  I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.

Life at Hunters Care Home

Exercising at Hunters

At Hunters, we have come up with a novel way to stay fit and active whilst maintaining social distancing. Michelle, who is part of the activities team, came up with the idea of using the inside cardboard from wrapping paper to use as bats to hit the balloon backwards and forwards between the residents. Not only healthy and safe but also a lot of fun!

Flower Arranging Session

In the absence of this year’s Chelsea Flower Show Hunters decided to celebrate all things horticultural with an afternoon of flower arranging. The residents enjoyed a relaxing and creative afternoon assembling the displays.

Afterwards they were served a delicious cream tea and as is customary at Hunters the arrangements were delivered to residents who are nursed in bed to brighten their day.

Rainbow Arts & Crafts

Here at Hunters, the residents are keeping up their spirits with arts and crafts sessions. The art work will be displayed on our smile board, which is designed to keep everyone cheerful and show all of the positive messages and thoughts that are being sent to Hunters. Everyone here would like to send their love to family and friends and at this difficult time, and send the message to stay home, stay safe and to protect the NHS.

Time in the Garden

The residents at Hunters always enjoy their time in the garden out in the fresh air, but in recent weeks, it has become more important than ever before to spend time outside safely.

At Hunters, we are blessed with extensive grounds and gardens, which are kept beautiful by our gardening team. The residents can access the grounds any time they want to, and for those that may struggle to go out alone, there is support from the staff team.

The recent sunshine has brought a smile to everyone’s faces, and we can count ourselves lucky that we have such beautiful surroundings in which to spend our time.

Easter at Hunters

Residents thoroughly enjoyed their Easter weekend. There were hot cross buns and sherry served on Good Friday, and an Easter egg treat for everyone on Sunday. To make up for all of the over indulgence over the weekend, the activity staff will be offering walks in the garden and chair-based exercise to make sure everyone stays fighting fit.

High Spirits

During these difficult times, we know at Hunters how important it is to keep up morale amongst the residents. This week, we made use of Skype to relay a singalong with the Mind Song music charity into the lounge for the residents to enjoy.

The activity staff worked with Mitch from Mind Song to make sure that everyone had a really enjoyable afternoon. The session was ended with a very patriotic rendition of 'We’ll Meet Again' accompanied by plenty of Union Jack waving.
