Activities at Hunters Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall
Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters. I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity. I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Quiz in the sunshine
Some photos from last week as residents enjoyed Barchester’s Big Virtual Quiz! The weather was too good to stay indoors and our residents asked if we could move it outside. It was a fantastic idea and meant we could all enjoy the sunshine as well as a delicious ice lolly. The quiz was tricky and took some teamwork, but in the end everyone did a great job. Most importantly we had lots of fun and it was just so nice to see everyone smiling in the sunshine.

Hunters Summer Fete 2024
Wow, once again Hunters Summer Fete was the highlight of the year. The weather tried it’s hardest to deter us, but it did not succeed! Such a great day of music, dancing, fun and of course farm animals. Thank you to Strungout Ukuleles, Ragged and Old Morris and The Good Day Farm - On tour for keeping us entertained, as well as the Fairford classic Car Club for bringing along those beautiful cars. A big thank you to the stall holders who turned up and the fantastic volunteers for lending much appreciated extra pairs of hands. The kitchen team at Hunters did a brilliant job of keeping us all fed and watered with a delicious BBQ. Lastly a huge thank you to all the friends and family who came along to show your support, we hope you all enjoyed it. Ultimately the fete itself is of course for the enjoyment of our wonderful residents, who had been looking forward to the fete for a fair few weeks. It was wonderful to see so many of them outside enjoying all the fun and entertainment. As usual the smiling faces say it all!

Summer Swing Concert
The wonderful Ashton Keynes Village Choir came and sang for our residents this week. They performed their brilliant Summer Swing show in the dining room with the sun shining through. The choir have visited us before when they did a fantastic Carol Service for the residents during last year’s festive period. It was a lovely afternoon, with the residents singing along to some old favourites before enjoying delicious tea and cake! Thank you so much to everyone in the choir for giving up your time, you were all fantastic, and welcome back anytime.

Drop-in Hearing Session
A visit from the brilliant Mirna and Amanda from Leightons Opticians & Hearing Care who held a drop in session for our residents. They answered any questions our residents had about their hearing, as well carrying out some quick hearing tests for anyone who felt they needed one. They also offered advice on how our residents can maintain and care for their own hearing aids. So many of our residents suffer from poor hearing or worry that they may need some extra help, so holding this kind of session is always beneficial and something we will hope to do again in the future. Both Mirna and Amanda were fantastic and I know everyone who came along was very appreciative of the advice they received.

July minibus trips
With the weather slowly improving in July we have been out and about to some lovely local spots with our residents. With the beautiful South Cerney on our doorstep there are plenty of great places to visit and stop for a cup of tea and cake. From nature reserves to water parks, come rain or shine every trip was special and meant so much to all the residents who came along. Many of them lived and worked in South Cerney or Cirencester, so it’s wonderful to see their faces as they recognise sights they know. Also listening to their stories of how the area looked in years gone by.

Tour de Barchester visits Hunters
Wow what a great morning welcoming the amazing Tour de Barchester riders as they began their final day of cycling for charity. They have been raising money for the Barchester Foundation, which supports helping older people and adults with a disability throughout the country. Hunters came together today to show our support with the help of our residents and lots of fun and games, as well as tasty treats supplied by our fantastic kitchen team. The sun was shining and everyone had a great time meeting the cyclists, asking about their journey so far and engaging with some ”friendly” games of table tennis. It was wonderful to show our support for such a fantastic cause, and everyone had a brilliant time too!
