Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Everson

Activities Coordinator & Speak Up Champion

I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.

I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day.  I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Life at Hurstwood View Care Home

Festival of Christmas Trees

This weekend we are hosting a tree at Holy Cross Uckfield’s Festival of Christmas Trees.

The event is running 2-4th December at Holy Cross Church in Uckfield. There are over 100 trees all lovingly decorated by the local community.

We have spent time with residents making handmade decorations to adorn the tree. We took residents with us yesterday to decorate, then have made another visit to the festival today with further residents to enjoy once it is all open to the public.

The Uckfield Singers Community Choir

Residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along as the Choir performed their songs. The hospitality team at the home also provided a spread of sweet and savoury treats and hot drinks for guests to enjoy after the show. It really was such a lovely afternoon, the buzz in the home was fabulous!

Ice Cream at Hurstwood View

Feedback from our most recent residents meeting was that our residents would like ice cream more often!

So as not to disappoint, we decided to run an ice cream trolley. With different flavours and toppings residents could choose their perfect ice cream.

Despite the weather outside being horrendous, this went down an absolute dream! Nearly everyone in the home had an ice cream, and thoroughly enjoyed it! They are now asking us to put it on the planner every month!

Halloween Celebrations

Staff, residents and guests got in to the spirit of things with lots of music, decorations, and a Halloween themed dinner. Around 50 children from the local community visited to ‘Trick or Treat’, see residents in their rooms, and show off their costumes.

Morning Dog Walk

Our wonderful Host Helen had been speaking to our resident Val about her boxer dog, Denzel. Val has always had boxers, and absolutely loves the breed! Every morning Val asks Helen to bring Denzel in for a visit. On Wednesday Helen came in for a visit with him. They all enjoyed a walk round the garden, Denzel especially as he got treats! It honestly made Val’s day, and was such a lovely surprise from one of our team members.

Knit & Natter

Hurstwood View care home, in Five Ash Down have invited the local community to join them for Knit and Natter mornings at the home. Taking place every Wednesday at 11am visitors will have a chance to have fun with joining residents to make scarves for a local children’s home, and meet other members of the community. The Activities team at the home will also be serving a spread of teas and coffee for all to enjoy.
