Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Everson

Activities Coordinator & Speak Up Champion

I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.

I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day.  I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Life at Hurstwood View Care Home

Ivy’s Glasses Appeal is back

Following the success of our lovely Ivy’s glasses appeal last year, she has set up another collection point in our Cafe area.

Ivy will be collecting any unwanted glasses to donate to Uckfield Lions Club. These will then be sent on to eye clinics in developing countries.

If you have any unwanted glasses gathering dust, please pop them into the home, we’ll do the rest!

Monthly Lunch Club

We ran our monthly lunch club in our Café area for August. This private dining experience was for six of our residents, giving them the opportunity to get to know each other. Residents made smoked salmon and cream cheese canapés, to enjoy with a glass of fizz for their starters.

We then spent the afternoon enjoying a good old fashioned sing along with staff.

A Fond Farewell

Last week we said goodbye to our Kitchen Assistant Oleana, as she heads back to her hometown in Ukraine. Oleana is a teacher, and will be back teaching, doing what she loves most.

Our team set up a very British themed party, with cupcakes and afternoon tea for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you Oleana for all your hard work over the past year, we wish you and your family all the best for the future.

Marco's Magic

We had such a fun afternoon with a visit from Marco's Magic

We were treated to a wonderful show featuring Punch & Judy, lots of magic tricks, balloon art, some great sing a long songs, and even a surprise visit from Elvis.

Thanks Marco for entertaining us, we all had a great time

A Big Family Get Together

We were over the moon to be able to arrange a wonderful family get together for our resident Pat recently. We know that Pat’s family is the most important thing in her life, so decided to invite them all here to enjoy afternoon tea together. Our Head Chef, Karen Downie, arranged a delicious spread of food, and we set up our largest lounge to accommodate them all. The family had a wonderful time catching up, playing garden games, and the youngest guests even performed a show for everyone to enjoy! We hope everyone had a wonderful time, we know Pat certainly did. If we are yet to arrange a Meaningful Moment for your loved one, please do contact us to discuss. We’d love to do something special for you.

Pets as Therapy

We’re so pleased to have two new wonderful volunteers here at Hurstwood View.

Meet Vickie, and her PAT (pets as therapy) dog Albie. Pets As Therapy is a national charity, that enhances the health and wellbeing of thousands of people across the UK. They strive to ensure that everyone, no matter their circumstances, has access to the companionship of an animal. Vickie and Albie will be visiting us every Friday, and spending time getting to know our residents. They have been a huge success, and I know many residents are already looking forward to their weekly visits! Thank you Vickie and Albie, welcome to team Hurstwood.
