Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Everson

Activities Coordinator & Speak Up Champion

I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.

I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day.  I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Life at Hurstwood View Care Home

Violinist and Singer, Nigel, visits Hurstwood View

We are so grateful for our wonderful volunteers. This week we have had a visit from Violinist and Singer, Nigel Stephens.
Nigel treated us to a huge variety of songs all the way from the 30’s to the 80’s. Residents absolutely loved this, with one in particular, who couldn’t stop dancing. Thank you Nigel, who took time out to enrich our residents lives, it’s so very appreciated.

Creative Mojo

We had a wonderful visit from Creative Mojo Mid Sussex. Residents in our Memory Lane community made a wonderful piece of artwork to celebrate Chinese New Year. This will be displayed on the unit, so do keep an eye out for it when you next visit!

Christmas Day at Hurstwood View

We had lots of fun in our home on Christmas Day, delivering presents to our residents. A huge thank you to our staff member, Demi, who even made our trolley into a sleigh! We have spent lots of time researching, and choosing presents that are bespoke to each individual resident this year, we hope they like them.

A Visit from Santa

We had a very special visitor at Hurstwood View last night. The Uckfield Lions Club Santa and his sleigh arrived to see us. The Lions focus on servicing the local community, so do a huge amount of fundraising here in Uckfield and surrounding areas. Santa and the Lions brought lots of smiles to our residents faces, of which we are very grateful!

Elf Day

We swapped our uniforms for costumes on National Elf Day in an effort to raise funds to help people living with dementia.

Launched by the Alzheimer’s Society and delivered direct from the North Pole, Elf Day was created to sprinkle some festive cheer on fundraising towards finding a cure for dementia. From stripy socks to head-to-toe elf outfits, anything goes – there’s snow better way to raise money to help beat dementia.

On the day, residents and staff at Hurstwood View were able to enjoy elf-themed games including bingo, a quiz and tombola as the team at the home donned their elfish apparel. The home managed to raise over £100 towards the cause.

Festival of Christmas Trees

This weekend we are hosting a tree at Holy Cross Uckfield’s Festival of Christmas Trees.

The event is running 2-4th December at Holy Cross Church in Uckfield. There are over 100 trees all lovingly decorated by the local community.

We have spent time with residents making handmade decorations to adorn the tree. We took residents with us yesterday to decorate, then have made another visit to the festival today with further residents to enjoy once it is all open to the public.
