Activities at Kingfisher Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Kingfisher Lodge Care Home

Decorating Wreaths

We had a lovely afternoon decorating wreaths to display around the home, lots of fun and lots of people admiring them. We also enjoyed mince pies and hot coffee.

Local School Visited Kingfisher Lodge

We held an intergenerational session with our local school, Saltford Primary, they visit us once a month to join in activities with our residents, always a happy and rewarding afternoon to be a part of. The afternoon finishes with chocolate and beverages for all.

Zoo Lab

We enjoyed a visit from Zoo lab, which went down so well with our memory lane residents, who weren't scared of the animals. We had rats, guinea pigs ,small snakes and a large snail.

Special Friends

Resident, Brian at Kingfisher Lodge Care Centre had wanted to take his friend Stella bowling for a while now, so staff at the home made his wish a reality.

Brian  has lived at at Kingfisher lodge for over a year now and is beloved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of his wish come true, as they knew how much it meant to him. Brian is always “saying he would like to take his friend Stella out for a coffee, and to do something like bowling”.

They have been great friends as soon as Stella came to live there and are looking forward to a great Christmas together.

Vicky and Kelly, the activity team at Kingfisher lodge made the trip to Hollywood bowl happen. It was a great afternoon followed by milkshakes. Stella was over the moon to get a strike , and she didn’t mind that Brian won. Lots of laughing and a promise was made to return again.

Residents Get Pinky

Kingfisher Lodge Care Centre in Saltford joined in with celebrating Wear It Pink Day during Breast Cancer Awareness Month along with hundreds of thousands of other people across the UK and raised a fantastic total of £76.00 for charity.

Wear It Pink is a Breast Cancer awareness campaign which has so far raised £31.5million for breast cancer since the campaign started in 2002. Schools, businesses and families get together to eat, wear and make something pink in order to raise money for breast cancer.

The residents tucked into their favourite pink treats made by the home’s chef with help from friends, family, staff and residents! Everyone in the home, including the carers all added something pink to their outfits to celebrate the day. Everyone bought pink raffle tickets to win lots of pink prizes, and they all participated in the big pink quiz.

Patricia, a resident at Kingfisher lodge, said: ‘Wear It Pink Day is a great opportunity for us to invite our friends and family to the home as long as they are up for wearing and eating something pink! We love to get involved knowing that it is going to such a great cause’.

Clare Sinclair General Manager at Kingfisher lodge said: ‘It’s great to see everyone getting so involved in Wear It Pink Day. We all loved it when friends and family join the home for an afternoon of fun, pink and fundraising!’

Charity Car Wash with the Local Scouts

Residents at Kingfisher care centre, in Saltford recently held a charity car wash in the grounds of the home with a visiting group of local scouts. The event, which took place on Saturday 14th September welcomed the group of scouts aged  8-12 to wash as many cars they could in the two hours they were there.

It was a very hot day so there were cold drinks and sweet treats for all to enjoy.

Activities co-ordinator Victoria Hunt of Kingfisher Lodge Care Centre said: “The residents at our home had a lot of fun watching the group of young visitors. The Scouts worked so hard washing over 20 cars, and every car washed, gleamed, all the staff and visitors were extremely happy with their clean cars. Kingfisher Lodge want to say a massive thank you to all of the scouts and helpers who turned up on the day, Jane the scout leader and Alan who did a great job too.”

Janice a resident at Kingfisher Lodge, “said how lovely it was to see the scouts having fun, getting each other wet and running around laughing , it was such a lovely afternoon to sit and watch them enjoying themselves.”

The scouts raised over £100.00 to go towards reality googles for the residents, which has been added to previously raised money and is now enough for the home to go and purchase them.
