Activities at Kingfisher Lodge Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Hi, I am George and I am the Activities Lead here at Kingfisher Lodge. I have worked in healthcare for over 6 years and I have a passion for enriching the lives of the people in our home. We offer a wide variety of life enrichment activities within our home, from minibus trips and group outings all the way to spending some one on one time with our residents. If you pop into the home, the chances is you’ll find me, so come say hello!

Life at Kingfisher Lodge Care Home
Full Steam Ahead!
Residents at Kingfisher Lodge enjoyed an afternoon at Avon Valley Railway. They were able to enjoy a ride on the steam train on the special carriage available for wheelchair users. The conductor spent the duration of the journey with the residents, which they really enjoyed. Tea and a big slice of cake was served afterwards in the café.
Teddy Bear Picnic
We had a wonderful afternoon in the garden at our teddy bears picnic. Families and friends joined the residents in the garden for an afternoon with all our teddies.
We played some music including ”If you go down in the woods today” and all sang along. Adam, our chef, made us a picnic which included mini pizzas, sausages, pasties and cake.
We all enjoyed the sunshine and the company.
We are now rated 'Good'!
Kingfisher Lodge passed a recent Care Quality Commission inspection with a “Good” rating in all areas after being praised for a responsive, safe, effective, caring and well-led service.
The CQC inspected us on 2nd July 2019 (the report was released on 19th July) and rated the home as “Good” overall.
The report stated, “People were supported by caring and passionate staff in a spacious environment with a large accessible garden area. The service was clean, tidy and furnished thoughtfully to a high standard”.
The report went on to say “Care and support was person centred and enabled people’s wishes and preferences to be met. People were encouraged and supported to remain independent. There was a wide variety of activities to engage people in. Links had been developed to ensure the service is an active part of the local community.”
Also highlighted in the report was “Medicines were administered safely. People were supported with their health conditions and we received consistent positive feedback from health and social care professionals about the quality of care provided”
In celebration of the rating and to thank each member of the team for their contributions to our home, each team member was presented with £100 gift voucher in appreciation of their hard work.
National Cream Tea Day
Kingfisher Lodge brewed up a storm for National Cream Tea day on 28th June.
Finally putting an end to the controversial debate of cream before jam for the Cornish tradition or jam before cream as part of the Devonshire tradition, we enjoyed homemade scones both ways with a fes-tea-val of herbal and classic teas.
Residents at the home enjoyed a selection of sweet and savoury treats, including cucumber sandwiches, teacakes, and chocolate eclairs. Family and friends were also invited to the home for the 'par-tea'.
Celebrating 65 Years
Alan and Muriel have recently celebrated their 65th years of marriage right here at Kingfisher Lodge. They especially enjoyed receiving a card congratulating them from the Queen. Alan surprised Muriel with a beautiful frame that held a lovely photo on their wedding day, and a photo taken that week.
Family and friends came to Kingfisher Lodge to celebrate the couple’s special anniversary with staff and residents. We arranged a 3-course meal with drinks a cake, and decorated their room with banners, balloons and bows. Staff also made a special boutonnière for Muriel to wear for the occasion.
Access All Ages
Saltford Primary School visited Kingfisher Lodge for their first ‘Access All Ages’ session. Residents and students had a wonderful time together, filled with dancing, singing, painting and games. This meeting allowed the residents to feel connected to their local community and to meaningfully communicate with the younger generation.
