Activities at Kings Park Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Claudia Canosa

Activities Lead

Claudia moved to the UK from her native South Africa with her family some 6 years ago, although her family are of Italian decent.

With a caring nature, Claudia worked for a domiciliary care company helping in people in the community before eventually working in a care home environment, working up to the role of Senior Carer.

Realising how much she enjoyed making the residents smile, Claudia has now stepped into the role of Activities Lead here at Kings Park and very much loves the interaction with our residents, who have all taken a real shine to her.

Claudia can regularly be seen with our residents in a very creative capacity, enjoying flower arranging or leading everyone in a game of good old fashioned Bingo!

When at home, Claudia is a mother to two boys and a girl and also a pet mum to the the gorgeous, Molly - a Jack Russell cross.

She loves nothing more than curling up on the sofa in front of a good rom/com, with:  The Holiday, The Lakehouse and The Notebook as some of her favourites to date.

We are so happy to have her as part of the Kings Park team.

Birthday Celebrations!

Here at Kings Park we recently welcomed the lovely Sheila's friends and family into our home for her wonderful birthday party...

Along with Sheila's family & friends, there were also lots of younger family who were all around to wish Sheila many happy returns of the day, much to her delight! The residents at Kings Park were utter delighted to watch the younger ones playing and giggling.

There was a wonderful afternoon tea provided by our wonderful chef, Wyn, who also made Sheila a delicious cake to share with everyone too.

We were so glad to welcome you all here in our home and we hope you all had the very best day with all your nearest and dearest, lovely Sheila.

CHEERS to many more fun-filled birthdays!

Tea & Memories...

Recently, we were delighted to welcome back our new friends from Moretons down the road, part of the Abbeyfield Wessex Society, for a session of Tea & Memories...

It was really lovely to get to know some of their residents and also realising that some of them had a lot in common, as two of them realised that they had both worked in the same place!

The lovely Louise who also came along with them all and brought with her a bag full of items, which sparked some wonderful conversations and recollections from yesteryear.

An old fashioned driving licence, meant a discussion about first cars, passing their driving tests and favourite car make and models.

A selection of vinyl singles led to chat about first singles purchased, favourite songs and music.

Then a few programmes from Bournemouth Pavilion meant a lot of discussion about famous faces and chat about the Tiller Girls - Remember them?

Lots of happy and memorable moments were shared together and there were many smiles and laughs along the way!

Come back soon Moretons!

Choccy Fun!

One little lady who visited us here in the home this week for our Kings Kids session, really seemed to enjoy her yummy chocolate...

She may have had 'chocolate chops', but it certainly made us all smile and she didn't seem to mind one bit and it certainly made our residents smile!

Meanwhile, there was bubbles being blown and balls being thrown and a fun morning was happening all around.

If you or anyone you know have little ones who would like to join us for the next Kings Kids intergenerational session, then we have them weekly here in our home and everyone is welcome - even older school aged children, as we are carrying on all through the summer holidays!

So Long, Farewell...

It was with heavy hearts recently that we said a fond farewell to someone who has become the backbone of our home...

The gorgeous Gemma, our Admin Manager/all around AMAZING person, has decided to leave us to progress up the ladder!

So with today being the last day amongst us, we could not let her go without a bit of a fanfare.

There was flowers, gifts, cards and more importantly - CAKE!

Gemma, we are going to miss you immensely, but our lovely sister home, Moors Manor Care Home - Barchester Healthcare - BEWARE! You are not going to know what's hit you, but you are so, so lucky to have her onboard.

Musical Bingo...

It was eyes down here in Kings Park recently as some of our residents gathered together for a very fun game of bingo with a difference...

Musical Bingo! Much to the delight of the residents, they were each given a bingo card with names of famous songs on and all they had to do was listen out for the songs, then cross them off the card as they went.

In between the tracks, everyone chatted and about what they had just heard and also got to listen to some fascinating facts about each song and the singer.

It also sparked some wonderful memory sharing of where they were when they first recalled hearing the songs, as well as what the songs meant to them.

There may also have been a lot of singing too!

All in all, a truly wonderful afternoon and BIG CONGRATULATIONS to our winner, Burt, who was first to cross off all of his songs!

Cheese Please!

Residents here at Kings Park appeared to turn into little mice recently, as they tasted and nibbled a wide variety of cheeses...

Kings Park Wonder Woman, Amy, was on hand to host a mini cheese festival of sorts, as she cut cheese into bite-sized pieces for everyone to taste and offer their opinions on.

There was much discussion and debate over their favourites, especially over the marmite flavoured cheese - love it or hate it?

What's your favourite cheese?
