Activities at Lancaster Grange Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Charlotte Thompson
We would like to introduce to you our Senior Activities Coordinator, Charlotte Thompson. Charlotte has worked at Barchester since 2015 and prides herself on delivering a person centred approach, valuing equality, diversity & offering tailored activities. Charlotte joined the team at Tennyson Wharf in October 2022 before moving back to us here at Lancaster Grange in January 2023.
Charlotte is pleased to be welcoming families and volunteers back into the home. Charlotte is a senior activities coordinator and enjoys supporting other homes in our region as part of her job role.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Lancaster Grange Care Home
World Braille Day
This morning, Sherwood residents had the chance of writing their name in Braille with Gabriella from Activities. Today is World Braille Day and we discussed the importance of accessibility and independence for the blind and visually impaired.
In the afternoon Memory Lane residents had a variety of sensory games and puzzles including Jigsaw, scent identifying games, bird song quiz and pass the word puzzles.
Cherilyn Activities Lead held a talk and discussion on Sherwood Community in recognizing Sir Issac Newton on what would have been his Birthday.

RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch
Unfortunately it was too cold to go outdoors this afternoon at Lancaster Grange, so we had just as much fun ‘Bird Watching’ on the big screen. We identified the different British birds, using guide books, sensory garden spray enhanced our senses and RSPB soft birds. Our resident Joan shared her story of ‘Goldie’ a Goldfinch fledgling that she hand reared, and lived for 14 years in her spare bedroom.
Starlings virtual talk
Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.
Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.
The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
Christmas Day Carol Service
Fernwood Community Church visited the residents on Christmas morning for a Carol Service in our Cafe on Sherwood Community. What a lovely treat on Christmas Day!
A Christmas Carol Concert
Our residents welcomed Alison Wilson and her U3A group singing Christmas Carols and we had a great time with the group enjoying the music and sing along.
A Visit from Santa
We had a surprise visitor this morning at Lancaster Grange, Santa came and visited our residents on Sherwood Community, bringing lots of festive cheer with him!
