Activities at Lancaster Grange Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

The history of Coronations

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

We’ve had a fantastic Easter Bank Holiday Monday here at Lancaster Grange.

Residents came together in our Cafe for this morning’s Movement to Music, followed by a wonderful live performance from Jeremy, singing Rock’n’Roll classics that everyone sang-a-long too.It certainly brightened our morning.

We would like to thank local businesses and friends of Lancaster Grange who generously gave prize donations for our Easter Raffle….Marks and Spencer, Boots UK, Baker's at SixtyTwo, Gannets Middlebeck, JandJ Alpacas - The Alpaca Centre & Coffee Shop, F. Doncasters Butchers, One Stop, The Corner House, Reg Taylors Garden Centre, Spectrum Wellness + Performance, Morrisons, and Shine Salon Claypole.

We have raised a staggering £260 this will go towards buying specialist music playing therapy teddies for our nursing and dementia communities.

Resents enjoying National Scrabble Day

The residents of Lancaster Grange took to their games this morning of the iconic game Scrabble.

Scrabble is played with two to four players who score points by forming words from individual lettered tiles on a game board.

We had a lot of fun with the words we came up with and certainly enjoyed the morning, celebrating National Scrabble Day.

National Scrabble Day has cast a spell on us, a fun morning here at Lancaster Grange.

Baking and reminiscing on our Memory Lane Community

Baking on our Memory Lane Community a huge success.

We decided on a recipe, it was something simple and easy to follow, this happened to be an old family favourite, the smell of ingredients certainly helped trigger memories.

Cinnamon being a strong scent this afternoon...

We made sure we had all the ingredients out and ready to use. If they’re in labelled bowls or jars, then that is even better as our residents can identify easily.

Our tasks this afternoon were mixing, whisking and kneading, this is great for residents with dementia because it helps to always feel part of the process.

While we were working, we talked about the various foods that we loved and enjoyed eating and cooking when we were younger.

Baking with someone with dementia is less about getting the perfect looking cake, it’s more about enjoying the  activity together, spending quality time together and hopefully being able to reminisce. Finally, we tasted our pinwheels, it was a great sensory activity and gave us an enormous sense of achievement.
