Activities at Laurel Bank Care Home

Activities are a fundamental part of a rich and varied lifestyle here at Laurel Bank Care Home, which is why we organise both physically and mentally stimulating social events for those we support. The weekly itinerary is ever-changing, and regularly includes art lessons, chair-based exercise, trips and visits from a variety of different animals, as well as one-to-one time for residents who prefer the peace and quiet. Our team actively tries to incorporate the hobbies and interests that are meaningful to residents into the activities schedule as encouragement to continue with much-loved pastimes.

Jaimy Lee Almond

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Jaimy Lee, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Laurel Bank.

I have worked in the care home industry for over nine years. I started working at Laurel Bank in 2018 as a carer, and then, I was promoted to senior carer which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I moved over to activities in 2020, as I was asked to help out and help encourage residents to join in. During this, I realised how much fun it could be and chose to stay on and got promoted to Activities Coordinator.

I love my role as every day is different and I try to make sure the residents are happy and engage in meaningful activities, this also helps support the transition for new residents.

Life at Laurel Bank Care Home

World Cocktail Day

Today is world cocktail day! So residents at Laurel Bank made their own! They made a cranberry orange sparkler cocktail and a sweet sunrise mocktail! They were very proud of their cocktails! It’s been a lovely afternoon!

Home honour Nursing team

Coinciding with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, International Nurses Day, held on Thursday 12th May, is a day to celebrate nurses and care staff around the world. Residents and staff at Laurel Bank care home in Lancaster, were happy to get involved, they made all the Nurses handmade cards and made sweet bags. They were handed their own personal bags full of goodies and given treat throughout the day.

In 2022, the International Council of Nurses is seeking to focus on the need to protect, support and invest in the nursing profession to strengthen health systems around the world.  International Nurses’ Day is a day to give thanks for the dedication of care givers everywhere, who go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver extraordinary care and support.

Birthday celebrations

Laurel Bank would like to wish William a happy 80th birthday! We hope you enjoy your day! I’m sure all the chocolate will keep you busy!

V E Celebrations

What a fantastic day! Here at Laurel Bank we have been celebrating V E day! We had singer Ashleigh Woods performing all the golden oldies! Residents wore hats and waved away with their flags all afternoon! We enjoyed an afternoon tea in the glorious sunshine! We are looking forward to our next garden party!

Conversations by the Pond

We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.

Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.

The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.

A right royal brew!

Laurel Bank in Lancaster marked the Queen’s 96th birthday on April 21st in style by brewing up a storm for National Tea Day and having an afternoon tea party.

Residents took part in royal and tea-themed sessions including enjoying our first garden party of the year, with singer James Wood, and loved having afternoon tea with homemade scones!

Lyndsay Scott, General Manager at Laurel Bank said: “Our residents love nothing more than a good cuppa so they all really enjoyed the choice of different drinks, treats and events for National Tea Day and the Queen’s unofficial birthday, and, as a nation who truly loves their tea, it was great excuse for an afternoon brew and a natter. It was also a lovely way to say thank you to our longest reigning monarch.”
