Activities at Laurel Bank Care Home
Activities are a fundamental part of a rich and varied lifestyle here at Laurel Bank Care Home, which is why we organise both physically and mentally stimulating social events for those we support. The weekly itinerary is ever-changing, and regularly includes art lessons, chair-based exercise, trips and visits from a variety of different animals, as well as one-to-one time for residents who prefer the peace and quiet. Our team actively tries to incorporate the hobbies and interests that are meaningful to residents into the activities schedule as encouragement to continue with much-loved pastimes.
Jaimy Lee Almond
Hi, my name is Jaimy Lee, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Laurel Bank.
I have worked in the care home industry for over nine years. I started working at Laurel Bank in 2018 as a carer, and then, I was promoted to senior carer which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I moved over to activities in 2020, as I was asked to help out and help encourage residents to join in. During this, I realised how much fun it could be and chose to stay on and got promoted to Activities Coordinator.
I love my role as every day is different and I try to make sure the residents are happy and engage in meaningful activities, this also helps support the transition for new residents.

Life at Laurel Bank Care Home
Tour de Barchester at Laurel Bank
Staff from Barchester Healthcare’s care homes up and down the country have taken on a gruelling 211 mile cycling challenge from Bradford to London to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which supports older people and other adults living with a disability or mental health problems by helping them to connect or re-connect with others in their local communities.
Over four days, from July 5th- 8th, a team of care home workers cycled from Yorkshire to London, stopping at 15 care homes and one hospital across all four of Barchester’s divisions to meet well-wishers, have a well-earned break and refuel before continuing on their way.
Dr Tim Howard discusses book
Residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Dr Tim Howard, 4th generation GP, whose whole life has been about patient care, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his novel ‘Let’s Kill All The Lawyers’.
The novel is a medical fiction thriller that explores the impact of life and death events, mistakes and forgiveness, and the impact of law and justice on the day- to-day lives of ordinary people doing their best in difficult circumstances.
Residents had the chance to ask their own questions once the discussion was over and a great time was had by all.
Virtual book event
Our residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Daniel Snowman, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Just Passing Through’.
Author of over a dozen books, Daniel Snowman’s long and active life has led him to interact in countless ways with the wider world and with some of its most famous inhabitants. His memoir evokes these experiences via a series of vivid literary vignettes.
Our residents found the talk very intriguing and informative, and were happy to learn more about Daniel’s experiences around the world. A great time was had by all.

Home wins collage competition
A group of residents from Laurel Bank care home in Lancaster have won the final stage of the Lancaster Integrated Care Community Collage Awards.
The Collage Competition is organised by Lancaster Integrated Care Community. The awards aim to encourage everyone to all work together to improve the health and overall well-being of our community.
The activities team at Laurel Bank heard about the competition and knew that their craft-loving residents would love to take part so they got together as a group to complete the task using a variety of different materials.
Puzzles and song!
We have had a fun week of doing puzzles and reminiscing here at Laurel Bank! The ladies loved chatting about their stories to each other and having a bit of a sing song!
