Activities at Laurel Bank Care Home

Activities are a fundamental part of a rich and varied lifestyle here at Laurel Bank Care Home, which is why we organise both physically and mentally stimulating social events for those we support. The weekly itinerary is ever-changing, and regularly includes art lessons, chair-based exercise, trips and visits from a variety of different animals, as well as one-to-one time for residents who prefer the peace and quiet. Our team actively tries to incorporate the hobbies and interests that are meaningful to residents into the activities schedule as encouragement to continue with much-loved pastimes.

Jaimy Lee Almond

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Jaimy Lee, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Laurel Bank.

I have worked in the care home industry for over nine years. I started working at Laurel Bank in 2018 as a carer, and then, I was promoted to senior carer which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I moved over to activities in 2020, as I was asked to help out and help encourage residents to join in. During this, I realised how much fun it could be and chose to stay on and got promoted to Activities Coordinator.

I love my role as every day is different and I try to make sure the residents are happy and engage in meaningful activities, this also helps support the transition for new residents.

Life at Laurel Bank Care Home

Tour De Barchester

For the 3rd year running Laurel Bank took part in the Tour De Barchester. We did ours a little differently than other homes, we did ours on an exercise bike In the Bistro area. This was a 4 day event, cycling 211 miles we enjoyed dressing up, dancing, singing and lots of cycling all to raise money for the Barchester Charitable foundation.

D Day Landings

Today we honoured the bravery and sacrifice of those involved in the D-Day landings. Our care home held a special commemoration event to remember this pivotal moment in history. We had afternoon tea and residents shared their memories and stories and watched a documentary that brought the events of 6th June 1944 to life.

Carer’s week

Happy Carers Week! We would like to take this great opportunity to recognise and thank our wonderful carers at Laurel Bank.

We are proud of each and every one of our care team for the outstanding care that they provide to our residents every single day. They always go above and beyond their role and for this we are truly grateful.

Blue Light lunch

We are providing free fish and chips, tea and coffee to all emergency services from the police, paramedics to the army and this will be on the Last Friday of the month. This to thank them for all their hard work and all that they do. One of the residents Elizabeth visited the Army Barracks the Royal Lancaster infirmary and the police to invite them all and give them goodie bags filled with lots of treats.

Sponsored Walk for St Johns hospice

We have been involved in the 50-50-500 challenge for St Johns hospice. This is 50 businesses, 50 days to raise 500 pounds for St Johns hospice. For one of the challenged we did a sponsored walk up Ingleborough Mountain. Staff signed up for a very challenging day but they all conquered the mountain.

Wray Scarecrow festival

For the second year Laurel Bank entered the Wray Scarecrow festival competition and this year the theme was Sci-Fi. We got together and chose some ideas of what to do that we thought nobody else would think of. We thought of the Scientist from back to the future but called him Laurel Einstein. The residents worked very hard and had their Scarecrow displayed on the main street of Wray. Residents visited and enjoyed ice cream while seeing all the competition.
