Activities at Laurel Bank Care Home

Activities are a fundamental part of a rich and varied lifestyle here at Laurel Bank Care Home, which is why we organise both physically and mentally stimulating social events for those we support. The weekly itinerary is ever-changing, and regularly includes art lessons, chair-based exercise, trips and visits from a variety of different animals, as well as one-to-one time for residents who prefer the peace and quiet. Our team actively tries to incorporate the hobbies and interests that are meaningful to residents into the activities schedule as encouragement to continue with much-loved pastimes.

Jaimy Lee Almond

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Jaimy Lee, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Laurel Bank.

I have worked in the care home industry for over nine years. I started working at Laurel Bank in 2018 as a carer, and then, I was promoted to senior carer which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I moved over to activities in 2020, as I was asked to help out and help encourage residents to join in. During this, I realised how much fun it could be and chose to stay on and got promoted to Activities Coordinator.

I love my role as every day is different and I try to make sure the residents are happy and engage in meaningful activities, this also helps support the transition for new residents.

Life at Laurel Bank Care Home

Ironbridge Gorge

Our residents were treated to a fascinating virtual session led by Lauren Collier, Head of Interpretation for the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, about life in and around the Ironbridge Gorge at the start of the Industrial Revolution.

In her talk, Lauren explored the events which took place in the Ironbridge Gorge and discussed the history of this globally important area by exploring the lives of the people who worked in the industries of the Gorge, delving into the fascinating histories of the iron and ceramic industries as well as the activities which supported them, such as mining and the river trade.

Little Zoo to you

Laurel Bank residents enjoyed an afternoon with a mobile zoo full of cute and crawly animals. Residents enjoyed looking and holding centipedes, snakes, African snails and cute chic’s only days old. Children from the community were also invited to join in on all the fun as it was the holidays it was such a fantastic afternoon.

Notting Hill Carnival with a Twist

Staff and residents at Laurel Bank care home in Lancaster recreated the atmosphere of the Notting Hill Carnival by decorating their gardens and having their own carnival extravaganza complete with international dress and a fantastic buffet courtesy of the home’s head chef, Grant Prichard.  Staff and residents were joined by family and friends and everyone had a fantastic time experiencing foods from around the world.  In honour of the event, the home decided to create its own carnival with international dress created by the staff and the residents loved the idea. There was a magician for the children and lots of outdoor games for everyone to enjoy.

Keeping in touch

No matter the distance, we always find a way to connect our residents to family and friends. Here is Lisanne on a Skype call chatting with her family! Lisanne really enjoys her weekly skype with her daughter as she lives so far away it isn’t always easy for them to see each other so we always make sure they can talk on video.

Collage Competition

Residents at Laurel Bank entered the older adults collage competition organised by the Lancaster Integrated Care Community for the 2nd year running and we won for the 2nd time. Residents really enjoyed putting their crafting skills to the test and creating such a wonderful collage of the quayside in Lancaster.
