Activities at Laurel Bank Care Home
Activities are a fundamental part of a rich and varied lifestyle here at Laurel Bank Care Home, which is why we organise both physically and mentally stimulating social events for those we support. The weekly itinerary is ever-changing, and regularly includes art lessons, chair-based exercise, trips and visits from a variety of different animals, as well as one-to-one time for residents who prefer the peace and quiet. Our team actively tries to incorporate the hobbies and interests that are meaningful to residents into the activities schedule as encouragement to continue with much-loved pastimes.
Jaimy Lee Almond
Hi, my name is Jaimy Lee, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Laurel Bank.
I have worked in the care home industry for over nine years. I started working at Laurel Bank in 2018 as a carer, and then, I was promoted to senior carer which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I moved over to activities in 2020, as I was asked to help out and help encourage residents to join in. During this, I realised how much fun it could be and chose to stay on and got promoted to Activities Coordinator.
I love my role as every day is different and I try to make sure the residents are happy and engage in meaningful activities, this also helps support the transition for new residents.

Life at Laurel Bank Care Home
Mary turns 90
Mary celebrates her 90th Birthday. Mary is from a very large Irish family and they all came over from Ireland to help Mary celebrate the afternoon with a very colourful party. Mary had buffet, music and the most incredible cake. Staff also had the chance to join in on the buffet which was lovely. Big happy 90th Birthday to you Mary we know you had the best day and was so lovely to meet all of your family!
Resident realises dream
For many years now, Karen has always loved Johnny Depp especially Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. Karen asks and talks about Johnny Depp every single day and how much she would love to meet him. She has to be his biggest fan! Karen has watched all of the Johnny Depp films especially the Pirates of the Caribbean, which she watches very regularly. Karen has a signed post card and calendar of his which she is much fond of.
So the staff at Laurel Bank teamed up and organised for a very special day to happen for Karen especially with it being her 60th birthday. Captain Jack Sparrow was booked to visit Laurel Bank to join in with her party. Karen was absolutely over the moon, all her dreams had come true and finally got to meet the man of her dreams.
Mayfair of Nightingales
Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.
We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas. The experience was truly enjoyed by all.
Wedding bells chimes at Laurel Bank
Laurel Bank care home in Lancaster celebrated its first ever wedding at the weekend with the vow renewal of much-loved staff member Nurse Sally and her husband Steve, who have been together for 31 years.
Sally and Steve first met in 1991 when they were both in the Royal Air Force. They were both posted to the Falkland Islands where their eyes met across a crowded bar and the rest is history.
Sally and Steve have shared lots of happy memories throughout the years and have three wonderful boys, Thomas, Elliot and Peter.
National Ice Cream Day
Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event in celebration on National Ice Cream Day. Wall’s team took us on a great journey through history, sharing fascinating details about the brand since its launch in 1922. We learned about major innovations such as the introduction of Mr Whippy, Cornetto, Viennetta, Twister, and Carte d'Or.
Residents were treated to a singalong to Cornetto classic ads, an interactive quiz about fun Wall’s facts and best-of-all, an ice-cream tasting session. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our ice-cream lovers.
