Activities at Lawton Rise Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Kate Franks
Hi, my name is Kate Franks and I have returned to Lawton Rise August 2023 to work as an Activities Coordinator. I started my career working as a Legal Secretary in the Conveyancing department before leaving to commence employment with the Health Authority as a Medical Secretary.
After having my two children I retrained to work as a Teaching Assistant in a Primary School for ten years and studied for a Higher Level Teaching Assistance qualification enabling to progress my career.
Due to illness within my family I needed to focus on a role closer to home but I am delighted to be able to return to the home and it feels like I have never been away. The staff and residents are so welcoming and helpful and I am really pleased that I have returned.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Lawton Rise Care Home
Ferndown florist demo
Our homes had a lovely time joining Sue and Nicole from Ferndown Florist for an intriguing flower arrangement workshop in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Our residents enjoyed a wonderful virtual demonstration and got inspired to create their own flower posies for our Jubilee displays. Our home will be specially decorated for the upcoming festivities. Stay tuned.
Book corner with Graham Whitlock
We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.
Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.
Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.
Pet therapy
Zuko the Therapy Dog has a Wagtastic time with the Residents of Lawton Rise!! Today our residents were treated to a special visit from Zuko, the Husky. He brought back many memories for the residents and in turn lots of smiles to their faces. We look forward to him returning to see us.
Slipper soccer
There is nothing quite like a game of Slipper Soccer to bring out your competitive side. Laughter, fun and exercise were the name of the game today, as we battled against each other to see who would win the most points. Clearly, Gordon, an ex-football referee outshone everyone with his footballing skills.
A shopping trip
What better way to explore the local community than by doing a little retail therapy. A lovely walk to the local shop to buy some goodies and then on to the garden centre to buy plants for our recently updated garden. That’s what we call a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon!
Book corner with Henry Slator
We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.
Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.
The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.
