Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Wonderful Whitby

Our mini bus adventures took us to the wonderful coastal town of Whitby! Residents and the team brought blue skies & sunshine with them to this beautiful historic town!  Whilst taking in the seaside sounds and sights we sat down by the harbour to enjoy one of kitchen assistant Simon's famous picnics; followed by a meander along the seafront and ending up at a lovely little bar for ice cream, and a good ol' cup of Yorkshire tea

And of course resident Ann was able to get her fix of her beloved Captain Cook. A wonderful afternoon of fond reminiscence, laughs shared & meaningful moments created.

A huge thank you to drivers Ken & Michelle, and Tracey and Jane for volunteering. Along with our fabulous sister home Boroughbridge Manor Care Home for allowing us to borrow their mini bus, meaning we were able to take as many residents as possible to join in the fun.

Captain Cook Expedition

Anyone who has ever met the lovely Ann will likely have heard all about her admiration of Captain James Cook; describing the explorer as her hero.

We love to find out all about our residents passions and encourage those sparks of joy that truly ignite a zest for life! So what better excuse than to forge our own expedition of discovery!  The first stop in our Captain Cook expedition saw us take a trip to Captain Cook Birthplace Museum. This fabulous museum is situated close to the granite urn which marks the site of Cook's birthplace cottage and boasts an array of artefacts relating to Cook's voyages.

Ann and her friends were in awe of the exhibitions and loved being immersed in all things Cook! Ann's smile says it all! Residents cannot wait for the next stop in the adventure; Whitby!

Running for reminiscence

Kim Calvert at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home in Leeming Bar has completed the Northallerton 5k Parkrun to raise money to fund a specialist doll therapy programme for residents living with dementia in the home.

The monies raised will allow the home to purchase specialist empathy dolls and accessories to promote meaningful reminiscence, connection, and provide comfort. Residents, their relatives and staff have all been very supportive cheering Kim on when training for the 5K, watching her run up and down the homes driveway!

Fete brings community together

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Leeming Bar Grange to enjoy a rootin' tootin' boot scootin' good time at their Summer fete!

Head chef Toni Scott and her ace-high team whipped up hot dogs, burgers and a selection of scrumptious sweets; enjoyed whilst Eric White 'The Original Teeside Cowboy' played everyone’s favourite country hits, followed by accordionist Alan Chandler for a good ol' sing along.

Activities Coordinator of the Year

Kimberley Bentley Calvert at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home in Leeming Bar has been crowned Activities Coordinator of the Year for the North Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2023 and is through to the national round of judging.

The Barchester Care Awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 13,000 residents living in Barchester’s 252 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.

Virtual walking tour of Mayfair

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.
