Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Life at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Residents visited by Alpaca Wabbits....

Leeming Bar Grange care home, in Leeming Bar was full of animal mischief on 4th April when a group of alpaca ‘wabbits’ came to visit the home.

Residents and visiting nursery children were pleasantly surprised to see their new furry friends Mr Bubbles & Colin visiting complete with rabbit ears to celebrate the Easter period! Handler Joe from Joe’s Owl Encounters and Exotic Mobile Zoo gave an insight into these wooly amazing animals as residents got up close and personal!

Chicks hatch at Leeming!

Staff, residents and their guests at Barchester’s Leeming Bar Grange care home, in Leeming Bar were celebrating the birth of baby chicks this week at the home.

There was a lot of egg-citement at the home as 4 chicks hatched throughout the week. Residents were able to pet and feed the chicks as they found their footing in their new home. This fabulous programme allows residents and the team an interactive experience in caring for these beautiful feathered friends. Along with the opportunity for meaningful reminiscence with many residents having reared chickens throughout their lives

Be A Rainbow In Someone Else's Cloud

We recently had a very special visit from the wonderful ladies from Bedale Methodists with their creative worship group 'Messy Vintage'.

Whilst Messy Vintage does have a religious focus the group welcomes all no matter whether theist, agnostic, or atheist as a place for one another to come together to explore creative expression & build connection.

March’s group focused on the significance of rainbows in our lives & faith. We spoke about how the simplicity of a rainbow never fails to bring about awe and wonder, along with connecting others; I'm sure if like us, whenever you see a rainbow you will point this out to others or perhaps take a photograph to share the joy!

Time was taken to reflect upon inspirational quotes such as "be a rainbow in someone else's cloud", and "after every storm comes a rainbow", and of course we had to have a sing along to Somewhere Over The Rainbow!

This led the group on to create their own little rainbows together to display in the home in the hopes of when glanced upon they evoke those feelings of positivity.

A huge thank you to the ladies from Bedale Methodist Church for such a wonderful afternoon! We can't wait to see you again next month.

Happy Mothers Day

As Mother’s Day saw us celebrate all our wonderful Mother's and Mother Figures LBG was alive with smiles and special moments!

Residents spent time with their loved ones at our special mother's day luncheon courtesy of our very talented chef Karen and her team who created a beautiful traditional roast dinner with all the trimmings; taking residents and loved ones back to those beautiful memories of celebratory family meals of times gone by.

As we relaxed into the afternoon we were treated to a spectacular performance from Malcolm Watson Classical Tenor. Mal not only sang huge musical numbers such as Ava Maria and The Impossible Dream, he also belted out hits such as Sweet Caroline and Return to Sender to get everyone up and dancing!

We would just like to say a huge thank you to all who came along today to make the day so wonderful and for allowing us to be part of your special day with your mother's & mother figures.

St Patrick's Day

Residents and staff at Leeming Bar Grange in Leeming Bar celebrated all things Irish for St Patrick’s Day this week. The home was decorated with handmade shamrocks and rainbows with everyone dressed in green to mark the day.  Held on March 17th, Saint Patrick's Day actually observes the death of St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, but the day has come to be a huge celebration of Irish heritage and culture.

It was a day of great craic as residents, loved ones, and the team enjoyed a silent disco filled with Irish shenanigans; with the gold at the end of our rainbow being an array of delicious sweet treats at the homes bake sale to raise funds for comic relief; which also fell on St Patrick’s Day this year. Following the enthusiastic jigging to The Irish Rover residents of course par-took in a refreshing Guinness or two

General Manager, Michelle Keep said: “Our residents have all had a brilliant day today, everyone has enjoyed the festivities – I think we all agree St Patrick’s Day is the best of all the saints’ days!  We had a fantastic time dancing to Irish ditties and all the classics; and of course eating plenty of cake!

A walk on the wild side

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Leeming Bar Grange care home in Leeming Bar took a walk on the wild side when they celebrated UN World Wildlife Day on 3rd March.

World Wildlife Day is an annual global event to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants.  World Wildlife Day 2023 is celebrated under the theme ‘Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation’ to highlight the people who are making a difference and celebrate all conservation efforts from marine life and our oceans to collaborations with businesses which are helping to reverse the loss in biodiversity on our planet through sustainability and wildlife protection.

Residents had a brilliant time as they were transported to the jungle with a visit from Aquatic Finatic pet therapy. Residents and the team impressed themselves as they got up close and personal with the likes of Busby the python, Storm Cloud the chinchilla, Sheila the bearded dragon, plus many more interesting animals!
