Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Oktoberfest

With steins at the ready residents enjoyed a Bavarian feast of tasty delights such as bratwurst, frankfurters, frikadellen, sauerkraut, homemade apple strudel cake, and of course a beer or two!   As residents tucked into their feast accordionist Alan Chandler played some upbeat ditties to get everyone dancing and singing along! It's safe to say everyone slept very well after the fun-filled day!

Place your bets!

Residents recently enjoyed a trip out to Thirsk Racecourse!   Residents enjoyed a traditional British picnic, including sandwiches galore, scotch eggs, sausage rolls, homemade Oreo brownies, and prosecco to toast their wins! Residents reminisced fondly over race days, owning horses, and for others they enjoyed their first ever day at the races!   A big thank you to all who made the day possible, especially team leader Tracey who makes the BEST brownies!

History of Botanical garden

Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.

The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.

Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.

Wonderful Whitby

In August we enjoyed a trip to the wonderful Whitby!  The ever amazing folks at Bedale Benefice of Churches very kindly invited residents and the team on their coach trip to the coast!

As always residents led the day which meant a tour of Whitby's finest bars and beer gardens! Along with a tour of the sites from Whitby born resident; Colin And of course there had to be fish & chips and ice-cream!

A big thank you to Jane; one of our amazing carers for coming along on her day off to join in the seaside fun & create smiles!  Residents described the day as "wonderful", "really enjoyable", "memorable", and couldn't thank the church & team enough for making this possible. We are really incredibly lucky to be part of such a generous & caring community. Thank you so much to Michelle Dearlove & all at Bedale Church

Togetherness Coffee Morning

Each week we enjoy a fabulous trip out to Bedale Benefice of Churches Tuesday Togetherness coffee morning.  Residents love to meet up with friends and family to enjoy an array of freshly baked treats from sausage rolls to whisky cake!  A huge thank you to the church and the amazing volunteers who make us feel so welcome each week
