Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Life at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Virtual coffee experience

We had a fabulous time joining NESCAFÉ’s virtual coffee experience.

We were able to look into how they sustainably farm their coffee beans, as well as, to have a virtual tour of one of their factories all from the comfort of our home.

To make things even more interesting, our residents had the chance to test their knowledge with an interactive quiz, and to the delight of all to taste the signature Sweet Cinnamon Shaken Iced Coffee cocktail.

Love is in the air!

Leeming Bar Grange care home, in Leeming Bar, was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of St Valentine’s Day.  Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by creating heart-shaped decorations, baking sweet treats, and enjoying live music.

As resident’s favourite crooner Laurie Bennett serenaded everyone with romantic melodies residents enjoyed a very special homemade afternoon tea of delicious treats such as mature cheddar scones, rich chocolate brownies, and decadent lemon and raspberry sponge. To capture the meaningful moments of the day Head Chef cum Photographer; Toni Scott, treated residents to a Valentine’s photoshoot!

Virtual cookery demonstration

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.  Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.

Chinese New Year

Today we welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a day of celebrations and activities! Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns, & gifts of oranges were given Residents created decorations & learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year. Including learning their Chinese zodiac birth sign Chef Janet cooked up an oriental feast for all to enjoy whilst taking a virtual trip to Bejing, followed by a themed quiz. What a fabulous day!

Leeming Bar Grange in Leeming Bar, Northallerton has a brand new look and feel following significant investment from owners, Barchester Healthcare.  The ground and first floors of the home have been transformed with a smart new café, hair salon, lounges and dining rooms, spa baths, activities suite, bedrooms and en-suite wet rooms. Home goes down under

Residents at Leeming Bar Grange in Leeming Bar have been discovering all things Antipodean in celebration of Australia Day, which took place on Wednesday 26 January.

Residents took part in Australian-themed activities throughout the day including a virtual trip down under including a tour of Sydney Opera House, creating rain sticks whilst learning all about aboriginal art, Aussie themed quizzes, and a sing along to famous bush ballads which everyone really enjoyed.

Michelle Keep, General Manager at Leeming Bar Grange said: “We’ve all had a brilliant day learning about all the wonderful things to see and do down under.  Those residents with relatives in Australia were able to video chat with them and reminisce about shared memories and previous trips down under.  It has made us all long for some sunshine and a trip to the beach!”
