Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Life at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Burns capers at Leeming Bar

Leeming Bar Grange care home in Leeming Bar prepared a traditional Burns Night Supper to the tune of bagpipes and capers continued well into the wee small hours!

Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities including reciting Burns’ poetry, Scottish themed bingo, and a wee sing along to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the Haggis.

General Manager, Michelle Keep, at Leeming Bar Grange, thought it was a perfect occasion to celebrate an evening steeped in age-old tradition as well as getting in a spot of Scotch whisky tasting!

Flower power disco

We love to Party at Leeming Bar Grange so to celebrate International Flower Day we held a Flower Power Disco! Residents prepared for their disco at our craft workshop by creating bright crepe paper flowers to decorate the home. Residents loved singing and dancing to all the old classics from the 60s and 70s whilst sampling fruity cocktails

World Religon Day

World Religion Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in January every year, and is a reminder of the need for harmony and understanding between religions and faith systems. On this day, communities of different faiths have the opportunity to get together and listen to each other, as well as celebrate the differences and commonalities that the delicate intermingling of culture and religion brings. There are approximately 4,200 religions around the world. While many people live their lives without religion, faith in a higher being or power works for the majority of people. Whatever the reasons, we are all for the idea of people being unified despite differences, and celebrating them.

Our residents enjoyed sharing thoughts on different religions and made crafts reflecting the philosophy common to each religious pathway. Residents agreed it was "different roads leading to one main source " of love and tolerance.

Martin Luther King

On 15th January we marked what would have been civil activist; Martin Luther King Jr's birthday

We took the occasion to revisit King's revolutionary speech and held a 'I have a dream' quiz session

Coming together and listening to these words of inspiration & hope lead us to think about the thoughtful & wise words we share with one another and what we would like future generations to take heed of

Home links with charitable foundation

Leeming Bar Grange care home in Newark-on-Trent is launching three grants totalling £30,000 in the name of a former Barchester resident, Jeanette Gill, who generously donated part of her legacy to Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.  The Foundation is calling for deserving local charities and community groups to apply for these special awards.

Named in her memory, the Jeanette Gill Special Awards are open to groups and individuals in need in our local community, and will be awarded to projects that enrich lives and encourage an active lifestyle through arts, music, sports and culture for older people.

Residents put on their blue suede shoes

Leeming Bar Grange care home in Leeming Bar was transformed into Graceland to mark what would have been Elvis Presley’s 87th birthday on 8th January.

It is estimated that Elvis has sold over one billion records worldwide so to honour the undisputed King of Rock & Roll, the staff and residents enjoyed a fantastic day of music, fun and dancing.

General Manager, Michelle Keep, said: “Lots of our residents are big Elvis fans and love his music.  We’ve had a fantastic day listening to all his hits, finding out about his early life and what influenced him, and taking a virtual trip all the way to Graceland! He was such an incredible talent.  This afternoon we had an Elvis quiz, it is amazing how many songs he recorded.  We all surprised ourselves by how many we remembered!”
