Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Residents enjoy nursery visit

Leeming Bar are thrilled to be able to make the most of the homes designated visitor suite and allow the residents to see their old friends! Prior to the start of the pandemic the home welcomed each week the children from Bedale Day Nursery to visit so the residents were over the moon to see their happy smiling faces again!

The children came along with their Christmas jumpers on and sang some of their favourite Christmas songs!  It was also the birthday of one of the homes residents so the children kindly sang happy birthday which had our birthday girl beaming from ear to ear!

To say thank you, the residents gave each of the little ones a small gift and the children enjoyed themselves so much so that they have agreed to come visit us every month!

Northallerton Silver Band bring festive cheer

Residents were lucky enough to be visited by the incredible Northallerton Silver Band who wrapped up warm to come play to them some of their favourite Christmas carols in the homes beautiful gardens. The atmosphere was buzzing with festive cheer.   Resident, Bill commented that “the band was superb” as he gave them a standing ovation. The home hope to welcome the band back to play again in person soon.

Everyone at Leeming Bar would like to say a huge thank you to Northallerton Silver Band for helping them to create a wonderful festive season for the residents!

'Egg-citement' at Leeming Bar

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Leeming Bar Grange care home, in Leeming Bar were celebrating the birth of baby chicks this week at the home.

There was a lot of ‘egg-citement’ at the home as seven chicks hatched throughout the week. Residents were able to pet and feed the chicks as they found their footing in their new home.

General Manager Michelle Keep said: “It was an eggs-cellent day when the eggs finally hatched! Residents at Leeming Bar Grange, as well as our team were all very excited about the new-borns, we’ve named the chicks Mavis, Ken, Shelley, Billy, Simon, Bevvy, and Norma.

Designated meeting suite keeping Residents connected

Residents are overjoyed at Leeming Bar Grange care home in Leeming Bar as Barchester Healthcare has implemented a visiting suite for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones for the autumn and winter seasons in addition to the outdoor visiting that has been on offer for those able for many months.

Balancing resident wellbeing and safety is at the forefront of Barchester Healthcare’s thinking and they understand how important it is for residents and their family and friends to be able to spend time together in the safest way possible.

There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment by Barchester Healthcare, who run Leeming Bar Grange care home. It was welcome news for their residents and family and friends as we enter the colder season meaning catch-ups can continue to take place, instead of, or in addition to, outdoor visiting already offered for those able.
