Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Life at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Home host virtual pet competition

Residents of Leeming Bar Grange have been missing their animal visits very much so to get our cute and fluffy fix they invited members of their local community and the homes team members to submit photos of their much beloved pets to be entered into their virtual pet show.

Residents voted on the pets to decide the winners in the following categories; Cutest Pet, Most Unusual Pet, Sleeping Beauty, Best Pose, and Best Dressed Pet. Resident Mavis said “how lovely it was to see everyone’s pets but that it was a challenge to vote for just one pet in each category”

After much deliberation the following winners were announced and all the winners and their families will receive a gift of treats, toys and a framed photo of their winning picture to display proudly! Leeming Bar would like to thank the community for such a fantastic response and for sharing all their cuties with them! We can’t wait until our next pet show!

The Wild West comes to Leeming!

It was a case of west is best as Leeming Bar staged a USA-style country party for Residents and colleagues with staff and residents donning their Stetsons to become cowboys and cowgirls for the day.

Kimberley Calvert, activities co-ordinator, said: "We hold theme days from time to time but we've never had a Wild West theme before. We had a photo booth and all the staff and residents threw themselves into the spirit of it.  We even had fun line dancing and singing along to hits from popular country and western star, Dolly Parton”

To end the day the residents enjoyed a camp fire sing along and refreshments including ‘cowboy hats’, ‘hay bails’ and ‘camp fires’ amongst others.

International Cat Day

Residents of Leeming Bar enjoyed a purr'fect day as they celebrated International Cat Day. The residents are huge animal lovers and wanted to do something to benefit some fluffy friends, so they got creative and made some little catnip mice to send out to neighbouring animal shelters and animal rescue homes.  Residents also created some cards to thank their human friends who look after these animals in their local community. The residents also enjoyed some games of ‘cat and mouse’ bowling

Cheese and Wine - a Brie-g Hit!

Brie-tastic afternoon for Residents as they enjoyed a relaxing Saturday afternoon with an array of wine and cheese. Conversation and laughter flowed throughout the afternoon as Residents shared memories and danced along to their favourite songs playing in the background.

One resident remarked they’d had such a good time she’d like to do it every day and for another the discovery of port salut cheese had the taste buds alight.

Activity Co-ordinator Kim said “she feels so lucky to have a job that allows her to engage in such wonderful moments with the residents, and that it’s lovely to both reminisce with residents and provide opportunities for the residents to try new things!

A blooming afternoon for Leeming Bar

The ladies of Leeming Bar took advantage of the dry weather to enjoy a walk around the homes extensive grounds and to pick flowers ready for an afternoon of flower arranging.

The home and gardens are looking especially bright and floral, as the raised flowerbeds have started blooming.

Once back indoors the ladies used their creative flair to create wonderful displays to decorate their rooms and communal areas of the home for all to see.  It was a colourful session and conversation flowed as they talked about their favourite plants and flowers.

Friendship Day

Residents of Leeming Bar celebrated Friendship day by setting up a group art project to make friendship bracelets to gift to each other and to send out to volunteers in their local community as a thank you for all their hard work during the covid19 pandemic.

Residents also made ‘bracelets of kindness’ for local children who have missed out on their birthday parties during the recent difficult times to brighten up their day. Residents spent the day reminiscing about old friends and telling tales of new friendships made within the home and reading friendship poems.
