Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Residents at Barchester’s Leeming Bar Grange care home, in Leeming Bar celebrated Easter by arranging a community Easter egg hunt!

The residents at Leeming Bar Grange enjoyed decorating special wooden eggs which were hidden in Leeming Bar for local children to find in order to win some Easter treats! The children sent the residents cards, drawings, and photos to say thank you for a fantastic event. The residents have very much been missing visits from children, so were absolutely thrilled to see the children’s lovely smiling faces!

General Manager, Michelle Keep said: “As always, we’ve all been looking forward to Easter. It’s such a nice time of the year – the residents were keen to do something to make Easter extra special this year for our lovely community. It’s really been an eggs-cellent event!”

For residents at Leeming Bar Grange care home in Leeming Bar, the long awaited reunion with one family member has become a reality, as one single named visitor is now allowed to visit each resident in their bedroom.

There has been much anticipation of this moment by families and residents alike.  Guidance was issued by the Government on March 4 and Barchester Healthcare, who run Leeming Bar Grange care home, is proceeding with a safe and cautious approach to visiting. Strict protocols are in place with all visitors required to have a negative Lateral Flow Device test result before being allowed into the home, and infection control measures and social distancing in place for every visit, with hand holding allowed but not recommended.

Staff and residents at Leeming Bar Grange in Leeming Bar have taken part in a superhero themed day to raise money for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day on the 19th March

The residents and team donned their capes to take part in a host of fun games and a charity raffle. The afternoon included a very special awards ceremony whereby the residents and team were presented with awards including “super caring and super inspiring”. Residents and staff spent the lead up to the day nominating each other to show their appreciation towards one another.

Residents at Barchester Healthcare’s Leeming Bar Grange care home, in Leeming Bar celebrated Mother’s Day with video calls and afternoon tea. The home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and bunting for the occasion.

Staff at Leeming Bar Grange arranged for each resident to receive a hand decorated treat-box filled with sweet treats, and a wonderful afternoon tea; during which residents shared fond memories of their own mothers and what being a mother has meant to them. Head Chef at the home, Toni Scott prepared a special Sunday roast with wine and bucks fizz to mark to occasion.

General Manager, Michelle Keep said: “We’ve all had a really lovely day. Although Mother’s Day has had to be a bit different this year, our mums have had video calls with family/we have made good use of our visiting suite to make sure lots of our residents had a visit with their loved ones.”

Residents at Leeming Bar Grange in Leeming Bar marked International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8th by spending the day celebrating the achievements of wonderful trail-blazing women throughout history.

IWD takes place on March 8 every year to celebrate women’s rights and inspire people to fight for gender equality.  A United Nations-sanctioned global holiday, IWD celebrates women’s contributions to society, raises awareness about the fight for gender parity and inspires support for organisations that support women globally.

Residents took part in discussions about the role of the many different women who have shaped history from Cleopatra and Boudica to Florence Nightingale and Marie Curie right through to the Queen and Mrs Thatcher. They talked about the important women in their own lives and celebrated the achievements of their fellow residents. Residents and the team then came together to raise their hands to signify that we choose to challenge gender bias and inequality.

Residents recently had a day of fun with sprinkles and fondant; creating masterpieces to be entered into our biscuit decorating competition! Residents and the  team voted for their favourite biscuits and the winners were announced as a lovely lady who created a beautiful butterfly biscuit, and our Irish beauty who created a very impressive caterpillar! Both winners were thrilled with their prizes of big boxes of chocolates!
