Activities at Lucerne House Care Home
At Lucerne House our person-centred activity programme has been tailored to suit the residents living in our home. It is constantly developing due to the direct feedback from our residents and enables them to take part in existing hobbies and new tasks that aim to stimulate creativity, intellect, physical ability and improve well being. With music groups, pub outings, cooking, gardening, one to one time, entertainers, quiz's, bingo and more, there is never a shortage of things to do.
We also have external providers who visit the home. We have Rachel Sherring who provides Yoga Sessions, Lorrain Christopher who is available every Wednesday and Thursday for hair appointments in our on site salon, Sharon Rees who visits on a Wednesday to provide massage therapy sessions in the comfort of your chair and regular Church Services which do include a monthly Holy Communion. We are always open to new suggestions, so if you do have any, our activities team will always be happy to listen.
Alex Petersen
I have been at Lucerne House since November 2011. I started in the kitchen before moving to the Activities Team. I have a background in music and theatre and was very happy to be able to share this with residents in the home. After a short while, I was promoted to Head of Activities, and earned my NAPA level 2 qualification in Activity Provision.
In the role of Head of Activities, I am focused on ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy existing hobbies and interests, but also pursue new avenues of stimulation and activity. I am always looking to bring new experiences and means of engagement to the home, be that through massage therapy, yoga, engaging with the local community or many other things. At Lucerne House, our person-centred approach allows us to make every resident feel valued and comfortable enough to express themselves however they see fit.
My goal is to ensure that every person living at Lucerne House feels confident enough to make independent decisions and that each of them have a robust choice of activities and interests to engage with. I am always open to suggestions, so if you do have any, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Life at Lucerne House Care Home
An 'Outstanding' Day
Everyone at Lucerne House had an 'Outstanding' day on Thursday 20th April 2017. Lucerne House has been awarded an 'Outstanding' rating from the CQC and this day was to thank staff, residents and relatives for helping with this achievement.
The day kicked off with a professional’s breakfast with bacon rolls, hot drinks and gift bags being given out. The home was open all day to visitors to meet General Manager, John Bayliss, and his team.
This was followed by a memory tree planting in the afternoon by friend of Lucerne House, Chris Wallington, and our Gardener, Seb Pope. To round off the day, the staff were treated to an awards evening with a special guest appearance from Dr Pete Calveley, CEO of Barchester. Together, with John Bayliss, he handed out certificates and gift bags to staff, which was followed by a fantastic buffet.
Beauty by Maria
Lucerne House is always looking to offer new services and ways of engagement, stimulation and means in which to increase the well-being and self-esteem of those we support. With that in mind, residents were thrilled to welcome Maria the beauty therapist into our home. Maria was able to offer hand and nail treatments, which gives that extra special touch and attention that residents were extremely happy with. We are all looking forward to Maria returning on a monthly basis.
Community Quiz
Residents at Lucerne House recently took part in the annual community quiz, which was held in the local village. The event saw teams from all around coming together to compete so that they could be crowned champions. The quiz took place in the local primary school and was run by the church, who are raising money for a new roof.
Unfortunately, this was not Lucerne’s year, but the residents who attended said it was a great evening and are looking forward to taking part next year, though we may need to brush up on our knowledge first
St Patrick's Day
The spirit of St Patrick was certainly with us at Lucerne House this St Patrick’s Day. Residents, relatives and staff all congregated in our Memory Lane unit to enjoy some great music provided by Colin and Ian from Sounds Easy and also indulge in some beer and wine tasting. The atmosphere in the room was extremely merry, with everyone singing, drinking and coming together to mark the occasion. Thank you to everyone who made it to the event.
Furry Friends of Lucerne House
Following on from the success of their previous visits, the team and animals from New Heights Falconry made a welcomed return to Lucerne House in March. They brought some wonderful birds for residents to view and also some rabbits who enjoyed being held and stroked. New Heights Falconry will be visiting again in the coming months so keep your eyes peeled for more info.
New Friends at Christmas
Everyone at Lucerne was very pleased to meet Nicola Harris from Skipton Building Society in December. As part of Skipton’s community initiative, Nicola joined Lucerne House to bake some cookies and cupcakes. Residents were very happy with the cakes and thankful for the support Nicola provided with the activity. We all look forward to seeing Nicola and other members from the Skipton Building Society in 2017.
