Activities at Lucerne House Care Home
At Lucerne House our person-centred activity programme has been tailored to suit the residents living in our home. It is constantly developing due to the direct feedback from our residents and enables them to take part in existing hobbies and new tasks that aim to stimulate creativity, intellect, physical ability and improve well being. With music groups, pub outings, cooking, gardening, one to one time, entertainers, quiz's, bingo and more, there is never a shortage of things to do.
We also have external providers who visit the home. We have Rachel Sherring who provides Yoga Sessions, Lorrain Christopher who is available every Wednesday and Thursday for hair appointments in our on site salon, Sharon Rees who visits on a Wednesday to provide massage therapy sessions in the comfort of your chair and regular Church Services which do include a monthly Holy Communion. We are always open to new suggestions, so if you do have any, our activities team will always be happy to listen.
Alex Petersen
I have been at Lucerne House since November 2011. I started in the kitchen before moving to the Activities Team. I have a background in music and theatre and was very happy to be able to share this with residents in the home. After a short while, I was promoted to Head of Activities, and earned my NAPA level 2 qualification in Activity Provision.
In the role of Head of Activities, I am focused on ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy existing hobbies and interests, but also pursue new avenues of stimulation and activity. I am always looking to bring new experiences and means of engagement to the home, be that through massage therapy, yoga, engaging with the local community or many other things. At Lucerne House, our person-centred approach allows us to make every resident feel valued and comfortable enough to express themselves however they see fit.
My goal is to ensure that every person living at Lucerne House feels confident enough to make independent decisions and that each of them have a robust choice of activities and interests to engage with. I am always open to suggestions, so if you do have any, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Life at Lucerne House Care Home
Soup of the Day
Lucerne House was filled with a great array of aromas this month as the new Cooking Club on our Ide unit recently launched. Residents from around the home got together to plan a dish and all agreed to make a homemade soup and bread for lunch. Marie Toghill, Senior Nurse on the unit, assisted with ingredients shopping and was on hand during to support the preparation and delivery of the dish to residents who wished to have this as an alternate starter to the already excellent dish our home chef had prepared. Residents have found this to be an excellent activity and a wonderful group to be a part of, and are already discussing the next dish to prepare.
Movement 4 Health
Residents living in our Memory Lane community at Lucerne House have been getting active this month in our revitalized Movement 4 Health activity. Peter Ajayi (Physiotherapist) & Alex Petersen (Head of Activities) have been helping residents use the cycle machines and physiotherapy equipment to promote well-being and increase physical activity. Residents who took part have really enjoyed testing their endurance, working on their muscles and having fun. There were plenty of smiles to be seen and one resident even suggested forming a cycling team for the Rio Olympics this year. Residents are all looking forward to taking part in this activity on a regular basis in the coming weeks and months.
A Day at the Races
The residents at Lucerne House have been having a great time with some furry visitors this month. Rich Dawkins and his colleague brought along some ferrets to the home, which the residents were able to meet and handle if they wanted to. These little speed demons then put on a great show for the group by taking part in a selection of races, which the residents could place a bet on with special ferret money. The winner received a special hamper from Rich and his ferrets and the residents have said what a wonderful time they have had.
A Mid-Summer's Afternoon Dream
Residents, relatives and staff alike could not wait to get out into the garden for the fantastic, hot and sunny weather in May 2016. The residents enjoyed Pimm's and lemonade, homemade thickshakes, choc ices and a selection of ice creams. Some residents said it was a great way to spend an afternoon and could not wait for summer to finally arrive.
Fingers crossed!
Pizza Party at Lucerne!
Residents have been cooking up a storm at Lucerne House. They have planned a pizza dinner and have gone about creating their own unique blend of tastes for everyone to share and enjoy. The residents loved getting stuck into making the pizzas, and are already thinking of what to prepare for next time.
Bloomin' Lovely
Residents at Lucerne House have been bringing the beauty of flowers into the living areas of the home. A flower arranging morning provided the residents with great enjoyment and lots of conversation pieces. When the good weather kicks in, the residents will focus their green fingers on the gardens and grounds of Lucerne.
