Activities at Lydfords Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Retired Nurses Club

Retired nurses from the local community came together at the home to share stories and memories with each other.  People bought along photos of their uniforms and wore their nurse’s pin. The hospitality team produced a wonderful high tea for everyone to enjoy. The idea behind the club is to bring people together that share a passion and can speak to others about their career and what it was like whilst making new friends.

General Manager Rikki said: “It was so interesting to hear about everyone’s experiences, and it was clear that they all had a great love for nursing. It was such a lovely afternoon and I am really pleased to be able to offer this club to the local community and our residents here that are retired nurses. We look forward to welcoming them back at our next one on the 18th August and meeting some new people also.”

Tour De Barchester Celebrations At Lydfords

For the second year running, staff from Barchester Healthcare’s care homes and hospitals took on a gruelling cycling challenge this time from Exeter to Eastbourne and then on to Purley.  Their aim was to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which supports older people and other adults living with a disability or mental health problems by helping them to connect or re-connect with others in their local communities.

Over four days, from June 6th- 9th, a team of Barchester staff cycled a mammoth 276 miles from Exeter to Purley, stopping at 15 care homes across Barchester’s South division to meet well-wishers, have a well-earned break and refuel before continuing on their way.

On 8th June at 6pm the tour stopped at Lydfords Care Home in East Hoathly where they were welcomed by staff and residents who offered them cold towels, freshly cooked barbecue and refreshing drinks. Lydfords arranged an evening of celebrations out the front of the home. Field and Flame BBQ came in and cooked some delicious meals on their charcoal barbecue for everyone. The homes head chef Enrico made some amazing sides dishes and desserts to accompany the barbecue.

There was live entertainment, games for the children and a special VIP area for the cyclists including goodie bags. Donations were gratefully received on the day. Relatives and the local community also got into the spirit of the event by arriving on their bikes to support the cyclists.
