Activities at Lydfords Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

East Hoathly Spring Show

The last few months have been busy with Kathleen and Freda getting ready for the East Hoathly Spring Show.

Kathleen has painted this amazing landscape picture and Freda with the help of some friends has knitted a baby blanket to enter into the show. They then went down there to see the other entries and enjoy the afternoon.

Surprise Baby Shower

We surprised our amazing Deputy Manager Ellie West with a Baby Shower.
Ellie will be leaving us to go on maternity leave this week.

We wanted to celebrate this exciting chapter with her and let her know how much she is valued within the home and will be missed.

The lounge was decorated with balloons and bunting.
Presents, flowers and cards were waiting along with us all to wish her well and say goodbye.

LYDFORDS CARE HOME HELPS TO TACKLE FALLS BY JOINING CHARITY-LED INITITAVE

Here at Lydfords we been helping to spread the word on how to reduce falls within the home by hosting their first Falls Fighter Prevention Workshop. Staff at Lydfords have all completed the training to become a Falls Fighter that is being run by RoSPA.
Falls can affect people of all ages, but are most common, and tend to be the most serious, for people in later life. Minor falls cause discomfort and inconvenience, but more serious falls can lead to hundreds of thousands of hospital admissions every year.
Sam Harding, Lydfords Home Services Advisor completed the training and has been setting up workshops to raise awareness and help improve confidence and knowledge on falls.
This week Sam hosted the first one with attendances from Ann at the   Uckfield Volunteer Centre and Heather and Alex from The House of Friendship in Lewes. The idea behind the session is to give people confidence to speak to friends and family about how to prevent falls and the knowledge of what to do if it does happen.
By the end of the session the ladies became falls fighters themselves and can now continue to spread this valuable information and to help stop falls from happening in the future.

Shopping Morning At Lydfords

We held our first shopping event this week for residents, family, friends and the local community to attend.

The event is due to take place every two months so that people can look and purchase items either for themselves or presents for loved ones. There were four stalls consisting of clothes, jewellery, toiletries, and handmade gifts and cards.

The event went on for two hours allowing enough time for everyone to have a look and enjoy a cup of tea and cake. Lydfords Care Home do regular trips out shopping, but after discussions with the homes residents it was decided that it would be nice to bring the stalls into the home so everyone can enjoy it together.

Lydfords general manger, Rikki Said “We are very passionate about our bespoke care here at Lydfords and a big part if this includes the wellbeing and life enrichment of each of our residents. It is so lovely to be holding this shopping morning on a regular basis so people can keep their independence and choose what they would like themselves in the comfort of the home and with their family and friends.”

Barbara, resident at Lydfords said “It was such a lovely morning. The home had a real feel of excitement. Everyone was in the lounge looking at all the products and chatting to each other. I am looking forward to the stall holders coming back again.”

Mums The Word At Lydfords

Residents celebrated Mother’s Day with visits and video calls from family members near and far. The home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers for the occasion.

Staff at Lydfords made the day special by pampering the ladies and were on hand to help open gifts and read cards, they made sure everyone was included and all felt special. Head chef, Harry prepared a special menu to mark the day.

Everyone had a lovely day.
