Activities at The Manor Care Home

Our activities staff are here 7 days a week and are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we care for in a group or individual basis. From trips to garden centres, the theatre, and flower shows to personal shopping and attending family events. We also love organising Christmas fairs, our famous classic car show, musicians, entertainment, and pizza and pint evenings. The team encourage families to visit and work closely with our volunteers to ensure that our residents social care is a priority, so that they have a fun filled and enriched stay whilst here at The Manor.

Marc Chidgey

Life Enrichment Lead

I have worked at The Manor since 2012, starting out as a kitchen assistant, where I replenished drinks and snacks and assisted in serving meals in communal areas. During this time, outside of the kitchen, I enjoyed meeting residents and took pleasure in seeing their engagement during activities. My interest in resident activities was evident, and I was offered the opportunity to transfer to the activities team.

I love to spend time with residents. I enjoy hearing their stories and finding out what activities interest them. I aim to keep them as active as possible, and my top priority is to instill fun and laughter at The Manor.

Life at The Manor Care Home

Little Donkey

Little Donkey

Residents had a super visit from the Donkey Sanctuary based in Sidmouth. Our four-legged guest visited all areas of the home and even stopped by the less mobile residents' rooms. Everyone enjoyed petting the donkey, who had a lovely, docile nature.

Burns Night

Burns Night

We prepared a traditional Burns Night celebration to the tune of bagpipes and haggis. It was the perfect occasion to celebrate an evening steeped in tradition, tasting traditional haggis prepared by our chef, Marie Anne.

Carol Singing

Carol Singing

Members of our local village churches, St Peter & St Paul's of Bishops Hull, delighted residents by carol singing around the whole home, complete with lanterns! The occasion was completed with delicious mince pies and mulled wine prepared buy our resident chef.

Christmas Celebrations

Christmas Celebrations

Residents were entertained by Shelley, our Regional Trainer, who sang a selection of festive songs. She was joined by staff members in costume, helping everyone get into the Christmas spirit.

Christmas Fayre

Christmas Fayre

Residents, staff and friends of The Manor held a Christmas Fayre on Sunday. Residents and visitors were able to make a start on their Christmas shopping from a super selection of handmade gifts and stalls; and musical entertainment with mulled wine and mince pies all helped to get everyone in the festive spirit! The Wellington Majorettes sang some lovely carols and paraded around the home, much to the delight of everyone.

Our New Greenhouse

We are pleased to announce that our new greenhouse is now open! It is specially designed to be accessible to wheelchair users and, with heaps of space to work in, we are planning to start off with broad beans over the winter!
