Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.

National Read a Book Day

Bookshelves are bulging at Maple leaf where bookworm residents were keen to get involved in Read a Book Day.

Residents decided to host a discussion about the residents’ favourite books and launch their very own monthly book club.

We also have an audiobook session so everyone could get involved. The residents loved reading and it has been a great day swapping our must-reads.

Getting our Scarecrow Making practice in!

Here at Maple Leaf, we are getting our practice in for any Scarecrow competition coming up!

We took to the garden to make our very own scarecrow. We used old clothing and straw to create it's shape.

Fred now takes pride place in our garden. Resident Alan said he enjoyed sitting in the sunshine while making him!

READ ALL ABOUT IT – CARE HOME RESIDENTS CELEBRATE BOOK LOVERS DAY

Bookshelves are bulging at Maple leaf lodge care home in where book worm residents were keen to get involved in Book Lovers’ Day.

Staff and residents decided to  host a discussion about residents’ favourite books and launch their very own monthly book club. Residents then spent the afternoon making their own book marks to save their progress for the next meeting.

Alison Bradley, the Activities Co-ordinator at the home commented: “Our residents all love to read and to discuss their favourite books so Book Lovers’ Day is a fantastic opportunity for us all to spend the day with our noses in our favourite books.  We also had a great debate about reading from print or electronically from a tablet, there were strong arguments from both camps!”

Maple Leaf entering the World Photography Competition

Residents at Maple leaf wanted to enter the world photography challenge. We were given the theme and after many discussions of what to do we thought to look into the word ‘light’ a little more and what it means. Staff member, Selena came up with the idea to incorporate the word into a quote and base the photo on it. Our photo resembles residents Ron and Rose who have been happily married for 67 years. They are natural models and it shows them looking through their wedding album while the sun is shining down on them.

“Every moment is made glorious by the light of your love”

We enjoyed our very first in-house performance since lockdown, and it was definitely worth waiting for. The Chantry Dance Company did an amazing performance of the enchanted moon.
