Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

World Book Day

Bookshelves were bulging at Maple Leaf where book worm residents were keen to get involved in World Book Day. Staff and residents hosted a discussion about residents favourite books and launched their own monthly book club and audio sessions so everyone could get involved in.

World book day is a day where people can dress up as their favourite characters from books. We had a special visit from the children from Beacon Lane nursery. Maple Leaf have a variety of books from different genres, the residents decided to get together books that we no longer read to donate to the nursery.

Fashion Show

Staff and residents had a brilliant time celebrating London Fashion Week and reminiscing about their favourite fashions over the years. Resident Barbara showed us some beautiful dresses she had in the 90s and a homemade dress she made in the 80s.

We used London fashion week as a great excuse to talk about what fashion means to us and reminisced about the different outfits they have worn over the years. We had our own catwalk dressed in different outfits.

Many of our residents had been seamstress and made many of their own clothes and for their children. Resident Barbara made many of her own clothes and said the best part was picking the beautiful fabrics, she still has some of her clothes with her.

,

Chinese New Year

Staff and residents welcomed in the year of the tiger with a day of celebrations and activities. Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, lucky red envelopes were exchanged and the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns.

Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year. Our Head Chef, Andrew cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food. We tried our hands at making homemade fortune cookies and added our own good luck notes.

Trip to the Pub

Let the adventures begin! Our first outing in the mini bus took us for some lovely pub grub at the Brewers Fayre. Residents sat down and enjoyed a delicious meal and a pint. Resident Peter's favourite past time has always been enjoying pub grub.

At Maple Leaf we listen to our residents and what they want to do, he has been looking forward to going out and now the world is our oyster as we can finally do it.

, ,

Belton Garden Centre

Residents have been out and about again, having a relaxing trip to Belton Garden Centre for a nice cup of tea and delicious cake. We took a walk around looking at all the beautiful flowers, getting ideas for our garden.

Resident Brian said he has never seen a fish that big before and that we should get some for the home.

Belly Laugh Day!

Laughter is the best medicine. Belly Laugh Day is a day to celebrate the great gift of laughter. Smiling and laughing are encouraged and celebrated. Laughter can come from many different  places weather someone has made a joke, someone has played a prank, or being tickled. Residents today chose comedy sketches by the two Ronnie's we laughed at lot. We then tried out laughter yoga the room was full of laughed till our bellies hurt.
