Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Courtney Doncaster
My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.
I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.
We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
Time for a Cuppa
Maple leaf held a time for a cuppa tea morning to raise money for dementia UK. Tea and cake was served all day, we had a wonderful performance from Steve Carmel and everyone was singing and dancing.
Easter Celebrations
Staff and residents at Maple leaf celebrated Easter with a whole host of different activities including an Easter Egg Hunt, attending a church service, Easter tea party, Easter cake-making, Easter Bonnet Competition, the ladies entered Barchester Easter baking competition and won for the central division. The residents took a trip down to the local park to celebrate in the annual duck race and enjoyed an ice cream.
Good CQC Rating!
Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home on Beacon Lane in Grantham passed a recent Care Quality Commission inspection with an overall ‘Good’ rating after being praised for operating a safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led service.
Red Nose Day Challenge
We have been busy clocking up the miles over the last few days. Monday we were joined by Beacon Lane nursery and took a walk to Wyndham Park to feed the ducks, it was a cold and chilly start to the week. Staff have been running and walking to work in their spare time. The residents have walked around our garden, it takes a total of 15 laps round our garden to walk a mile. The laundry and kitchen team have taken on the in house bike and clocked up another 6 miles together. We are on track to reach our 50 miles with a total of 27.5 miles reached so far.
Fun at the Fair
Residents enjoyed a fun afternoon at the fair, the laughter of children, the bright lights the smell of burgers, sweet and donuts in air bought back memories for the residents. Ivy said she can't remember the last time she had been. Ron met his wife down the fair, which bought back many happy memories for him. We had a go on hook and duck and the slots machine winning a small prize.
Alfie the Therapy Horse
Maple Leaf was full of animal mischief today when Alfie and Pinocchio visited. Residents were pleasantly surprised to see their new fury friends roaming around their home. Residents were very excited by the horses. Resident, Pat, said she use to go horse riding when she was younger and was happy to see them in her room.
