Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Courtney Doncaster

Activities Coordinator

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.

Let me Take an Elfie

Staff  swapped their uniforms for costumes on National Elf Day in an effort to raise funds to help people living with dementia.

Launched by the Alzheimer’s Society and delivered direct from the North Pole, Elf Day was created to sprinkle some festive cheer on fundraising towards finding a cure for dementia. From stripy socks to head-to-toe elf outfits, anything goes – there’s snow better way to raise money to help beat dementia.

Residents had an elf scavenger hunt which led them all around the home looking for naughty elf Rudy who was hiding in one of the bedrooms. We then had a Christmas scent guessing game.

Tacky Tourists

Residents at were treated to a virtual cruise and interactive cookery demo taking in some mocktails, exotic dishes and mystery destinations courtesy of chef, Paul Hawkins, and Lisa Richards from Unilever’s Away from Home team which supports the care sector. Chef Paul whipped up some tasty treats in a live, interactive cookery demo.

Whyndam Walks

Peter asked if he could take a stroll to our local park Whyndham for ice cream and to get some fresh air. We talked about how much the park had changed and how Peter used to walk his dog around the park.

National Animal Day

Staff and residents have been having a whale of a time celebrating world animal day. World Animal Day is a global event to celebrate all animals across the world. it aims to raise awareness of the importance of animal welfare and endeavour to raise the standards of all animals.

Memory Walk for the Alzheimers Society

World Alzheimer’s day takes place on the 21st September and is part of world Alzheimer’s month! This is a global opportunity to raise awareness, encourage support and to educate those about dementia.

The day is close to our hearts so we took to the streets and did our own memory walk with staff and residents to remember those who we have loved and lost.

If you would like to make a donation we have linked our just giving page where all donations will be for the Alzheimer’s society.

To celebrate the wonderful work of Roald Dahl residents and staff had a fun filled day as we dressed up as the Fantastic Mr Fox, Sophie from the BFG, oompa lumpas and Mr Twit.
