Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

St Patrick's Day

Residents at Maple Leaf Lodge enjoyed a day full of fun and games for St Patrick's Day. Our Irish residents, Vera and Ellen, looked through some Irish brochures and reminisced about their time in Ireland.

The residents enjoyed a taste of Ireland with a pint of Guinness and Irish cream. In the morning, residents learnt how to Irish dance and listened to some Irish folk music.

World Book Day

Snow White and the Umpa Lumpas joined Alice in her Mad Hatter Tea party in recognition of World Book Day. Residents also enjoyed dressing up as some characters and baking some cakes at the tea party. Resident, Brian, enjoyed reading a story to the children over facetime.

The Year of the Ox

The residents at Maple Leaf celebrated Chinese New Year with a tasty Chinese lunch and snacks to try, the home was filled with the smells of pawn toast, chicken chow mein and egg fried rice.

The residents made red decorations and lanterns to follow traditions. To finish the day, everyone enjoyed fortune cookies and read their fortunes.

Valentine's Day

Whether you spend it alone or with loved ones, always remember you are loved. Residents at Maple Leaf Lodge celebrated Valentine’s Day together. Ron and Rose have been married 66 years this year, and said the key to a happy marriage is to be kind to each other and listen to each other. Residents made cards for their loved ones.

The Magic Table

Maple Lead Lodge recently had a Magic Table installed, and first up to try it was resident, Brian.

Brian had a stroke many years and only has the use of his left hand; he is right handed, so has had to teach himself to use his left hand to get around and do the things he loves. He used the table for the first time and really enjoyed it.

Alison Bradley, Activities Coordinator, said it’s nice to see Brian enjoying himself; he is very competitive and liked to play against the staff to see how many people he could beat. We have now set up a weekly challenge for him to see if he can beat his top score.

Burns Night

Residents enjoyed a day full of celebrations, from reading poems and eating shortbread to singing Scottish songs and learning to dance. Everyone gathered to listen to our very own Scottish lady tell her stories about her favourite places and family history.
