Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Courtney Doncaster

Activities Coordinator

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

National Vegetarian Week

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo, courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef, Alex, whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo. Much to residents’ delight, our Head Chef, Andrew Neave, had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes, including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and coronation 'chicken' pastries, which was all finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.

In the morning, residents were treated to an armchair work out, courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s Furniture Company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

National Tea Day

The team at the home put together a tea party to mark the day, which falls on the Queen’s landmark birthday. Supplied with a tasty selection of biscuits, cakes, and, of course, teas for the event, the residents had lots of fun taking part in sessions, including themed quizzes and virtual tea celebrations.

The Teaspoon company in Grantham were also generous enough to donate some of their loose tea leaves. We had the Grantham tea, which was a mixture of black tea, apricot, pineapple and ginger. Resident, Iris, said that she really enjoyed the Grantham tea, as it was a burst of different flavours in her mouth.

Easter Baking

Residents at Maple Leaf joined in on a wide variety of activities over the Easter period. Everyone had lots of fun!

Bedroom Visits

Maple Leaf Lodge welcomes visitors to see their loved ones in the comfort of their bedrooms. After nearly a year of no contact, visitors are allowed to hold hands and to be with family and friends.

Seeing the residents faces light up when you bring their families into the room is priceless and is nice to see.

St Patrick's Day

Residents at Maple Leaf Lodge enjoyed a day full of fun and games for St Patrick's Day. Our Irish residents, Vera and Ellen, looked through some Irish brochures and reminisced about their time in Ireland.

The residents enjoyed a taste of Ireland with a pint of Guinness and Irish cream. In the morning, residents learnt how to Irish dance and listened to some Irish folk music.

World Book Day

Snow White and the Umpa Lumpas joined Alice in her Mad Hatter Tea party in recognition of World Book Day. Residents also enjoyed dressing up as some characters and baking some cakes at the tea party. Resident, Brian, enjoyed reading a story to the children over facetime.
