Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

My name is Courtney and I am proud to be the Activities Coordinator for Maple Leaf Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

We are always open to new ideas so please join us for a chat at any time.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

St George's Day

On 23rd April, residents and team members celebrated St George’s Day in style. Residents enjoyed the sun while waving their flags high. We enjoyed listening to the story of St George and the dragon and watching a Punch & Judy show on the TV. Even though we are on lockdown, this does not stop us from having some fun in the sun. Maple Leaf really enjoys making the residents day-to-day lives fun and enjoyable.

Bake Off

Avery Lodge turned into a bake off on Friday 6th March 2020. We had a variety of different cakes available for the judges to taste, we had Josh, Home Manager, Emma, Deputy Manager, Hattie, Administrator, Clem and Barbara, residents as the judges.

They tasted the cakes and gave the cakes marks out of 5. Resident Vera mentioned: “these cakes are scrummy”. Overall the winner was Bridie, Activities Assistant. Such an amazing afternoon of getting our taste buds to work, from oozing chocolate cake to melt in your mouth vanilla cake, we had some volunteers from the community to come help judge the cakes, Sandon School enjoyed getting to try loads of cakes, but who wouldn’t?

White Post Farm Visit

Avery Lodge was visited by some fury and scaly animals, from tiny mice to long snakes. Everyone enjoyed holding and feeling the animals; what an experience this was for the team and the residents. A one to fur-member!

Good CQC

We are proud to announce that Maple Leaf Lodge has officially been rated good by the CQC. Well done to everyone who has made this possible!

Valentine's Day Celebrations

On the 14th February residents and team members were treated to a very special day, sending the love around the building with resident “Ron” handing out all the roses to the special ladies at Avery Lodge, including his darling wife Rose. Everyone commented on how lovely it was to receive a rose, and all had a good smell. Many were so amazed at them being real red roses. Husband and wives had a three course romantic meal set up for them and join by Admin Hattie, Deputy Emma and manager Josh.

Everyone enjoyed a sing and a dance by singer Steve Carmel. We had love songs, and slow dances together, Marion a resident always used to love dancing and met her husband dancing, and she showed us a move or two.

The afternoon was a sweet treat, the ladies made some peppermint creams, Joan said “I love baking, it’s lovely to make your own treat.” The smell of mint could be smelt all around the home.
