Activities at Marple Dale Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Lewis Timperley
Hi, my name is Lewis. I joined the team in September 2021 as a general assistant and then moved to the activities team in January 2022. Most recently I became Activities Team Leader in December 2023, it has been a great journey here at Marple Dale and can’t wait to continue. I love my role as one of the homes Activity Coordinators, and love finding out new and exciting ways to engage residents with activities and each other.
Here at Marple Dale we try to do as many different activities as we can, to keep our residents as active as possible, as it is so important to keep active. I love what I do and love knowing that our residents have so much enjoyment from such a wide variety of activities.

Life at Marple Dale Care Home
Home creates Harvest display
Residents at Marple Dale have been creating a harvest display as they moved with the seasons. Residents worked together to create their harvest display and sang some favourite hymns and songs before sitting back to enjoy a slice of home made cake and refreshments.
Residents receive letters from Ludworth School
Marple Dale Care Home in Marple have teamed up with Ludworth School for a newly launched pen pal scheme, connecting residents within their homes with creative writing pupils.
The children from Ludworth school recently wrote letters to our residents where they told them a little about themselves, their likes and dislikes and were telling residents whether they had pets at home and how many siblings they had and where they lived. The letters really brightened up the resident’s day and are planning on writing back.
Home donates to food bank for Harvest
Residents and staff members at Marple Dale celebrated the Harvest Festival by donating a food hamper to a local charity and gift bags for the elderly in their local community in Marple.
The occasion was also marked with making their own autumn harvest display which really helped everyone at the home get into the spirit of the festival.
The Harvest Festival is a celebration of food grown on land and, traditionally, a time for families and communities to get together and bring food to the less fortunate. It dates back to the fifth century, where it was common for the harvest season to be celebrated with a huge feast – and from then the tradition grew and evolved.
Residents show creativity on World Card Day
Saturday 3rd October was World Card Making Day. We receive cards on special occasions, holidays and birthdays, they sit upon our mantle piece, and some of them are stored for precious memories. Whether it’s Christmas or our Birthday, cards are a special way to let someone know you’re thinking of them.
Residents at Marple Dale celebrated World Card Making Day by exploring their creativity and with a little support from the homes activities team hosted a card making morning and sent their handmade cards to their relatives. They also sent them some lovely photos of the things they have been doing during activities at Marple Dale over the last few weeks.
Residents knit for local hospital
Residents at Marple Dale care centre joined in the big knit and brought the homes keen knitters together to create little blankets for the homes local hospital, Stepping Hill and will be donating the colourful small blankets to the pre-mature baby unit. The ladies thoroughly enjoyed the small group activity to create something for such a worthy cause
'Latte' fun for Residents at Macmillan Coffee Morning
Staff and residents at Marple Dale held a charity coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Marple Dales’s coffee morning was a big success – they managed to raise £100.00 and, most importantly, everyone had a lot of fun doing it!
The British charity provides financial aid, specialist healthcare services, and all different kinds of support to those living with cancer. The purpose of the coffee morning is to sit down with your friends and catch up with a nice cuppa for a good cause. The money raised will help Macmillan make sure no one has to face cancer alone. Carer, Charlie was delighted to receive a bottle of prosecco for her winning cake.
Rachel McKinney General Manager said: “Holding our own Macmillan coffee morning has been a huge amount of fun and everyone at the home is always keen to support this fantastic charity in any way we can. We are very glad to be able to do our bit to raise further awareness and money for the charity.”
