Activities at Marple Dale Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lewis Timperley

Activities Team Lead

Hi, my name is Lewis. I joined the team in September 2021 as a general assistant and then moved to the activities team in January 2022. Most recently I became Activities Team Leader in December 2023, it has been a great journey here at Marple Dale and can’t wait to continue. I love my role as one of the homes Activity Coordinators, and love finding out new and exciting ways to engage residents with activities and each other.

Here at Marple Dale we try to do as many different activities as we can, to keep our residents as active as possible, as it is so important to keep active. I love what I do and love knowing that our residents have so much enjoyment from such a wide variety of activities.

Life at Marple Dale Care Home

Friendship Day

Residents of Marple Dale celebrated Friendship day by sharing personalised handwritten poems as a gift to each other and to share to team members as a thank you for all their hard work during the covid19 pandemic.

Residents spent the day reminiscing about old friends and telling tales of new friendships made within the home and reading friendship poems.

Residents celebrate 12-year anniversary

A couple from Marple Dale care home have celebrated 12-years of marriage.  Keith and Kerry met 12-years ago and it was love at first sight.

Family and friends wishes the happy couple a special anniversary with staff and residents. The home arranged with chef, Amanda to make them a tinker bell cake as they are huge Disney fans which was shared over a game of scrabble and a lovely cup of coffee.  Congratulations to the happy couple!

Long Service Award

A Senior Carer at Marple Dale has received a prestigious 10 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years.

Matthew Wright, Senior Carer, started at Barchester in July 2010 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Rachel McKinney General Manager said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 10 years of loyal service with Matthew. He has demonstrated his dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at Marple Dale when I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working Matthew!”

World Chocolate Day

Residents at Marple Dale in Marple revelled in all things sweet on World Chocolate Day with a range of chocolatey activities on Tuesday 7th July.   Staff helped residents make the fun filled bringing joy and laughter to the homes as ‘Willie Wonker’ and ‘Oopma Lumpa’ dished out delicious chocolate treats to everyone and enjoyed a chocolate themed quiz with the winner receiving a box of chocolates.

Residents voted on their favourite version of the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory – Gene Wilder or Johnny Depp?  The original 1971 version won the vote, which residents enjoyed watching.

Families reunite

For some residents at Marple Dale the long awaited reunion with family and friends became a reality recently, as garden visits have now been allowed to commence at the home.  It was welcome news to so many residents, family, and friends, who were kept apart for so long following strict government guidance. Residents and their loved ones got together in the home garden and the garden was fully of joy and chatter.

Rachel McKinney General Manager at the home, said: “This has been a much welcomed development in what have been very strange times. The visits are safe and organised, and it was wonderful to see how happy it made the residents. We will of course endeavour to keep up the high standards of care, and continue with our ever evolving life enrichment programme, to keep residents engaged. But this was a lovely day.”

Home brews up a storm

Marple Dale brewed up a storm with their own pop up café.    At Marple Dale they were missing their regular trips out into the community and Residents were missing their popular costa coffee fix, so with a little originality we created our very own pop up café in the homes grounds to serve some of our favourite drinks.

Activities coordinator, Clare Burke said – “We had a fantastic time enjoying our pop up costa café and the coffee pods went down a storm and we look forward to visiting our local branch very soon to enjoy our cuppa”
