Activities at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Nutrition & Hydration Week

Nutrition & Hydration Week

Marriott House & Lodge celebrated National Nutrition & Hydration Week (12th-18th March) with wholesome food and thirst-quenching beverages.

The whole team worked together with hospitality staff to ensure that each resident’s dietary requirements and care needs were met. Increasing knowledge of the importance of nutrition and hydration among residents and staff is something that is key to maintaining and improving a person’s well-being.

During week the home devised an exciting, challenging and fun assortment of food-themed activities:

On Monday, we held an afternoon of smoothie making and fruit-themed word games!

On Tuesday, the students from Chichester University held their weekly activity session, which was focused on the importance of exercise and nutrition.

On Wednesday, we held a Welcome Wednesday Lunch Club, Music for Health session and Nutrition & Hydration Tea Party. This was held with members of the local community and everyone got the chance to talk about the importance of nutrition and hydration.

Thursday was ‘Thirsty Thursday’. This day involved getting residents, visitors and staff to try new drinks and included information about the importance of remaining hydrated. We also held a special bingo session.

We finished the week with ‘Fruity Friday’. On this day, staff members dressed in bright colours and we held a community pub quiz with lots of refreshments available, of course.

Chefs always speak with the residents they cook for to find out more about their likes and dislikes, suggesting new dishes and ingredients for everyone to try.

Sport Relief

Staff, residents and visitors have taken part in a Sport Relief challenge to raise money to help transform the lives of people across the UK and the rest of the world in some of its poorest communities.

On Monday 19th March, we set off on a challenge to walk/ride 500 miles on a static bike or treadmill!

Residents, their relatives and staff were all very supportive and were there to cheer on the participants every step of the way. Many staff members came in on their days off during the week and visitors were keen to help by completing some miles. The challenge took place day and night, with everyone getting involved! On Friday 23rd March we completed the challenge.
