Activities at Meadow Park Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Meadow Park Care Home
A game of dominoes
Residents enjoy a game of dominos at Meadow Park as part of their popular games afternoons. A number of residents at Meadow Park Care Home had a great time playing a game of dominos with each other and squeezed in a quick natter and a cuppa in between games. Everyone had fun as they showed a little friendly competition each game!
Exercising the Mind, Body and Soul
Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Meadow Park.
As part of the homes life enrichment programme, the activities coordinators include firm favourite’s in the homes calendar with fun-filled adapted games that they played over the years in a safe environment!
Halloween fun
Barchester’s Meadow Park was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween party got in to full swing.
Staff, residents and guests got in to the spirit of things with fancy dress, music and games, pumpkin carving and much more. It was a fun-filled day for everyone!
Keeping in touch
Residents at Meadow Park have been hard at work creating cards to send to their loved ones along with photographs as a surprise throughout lockdown. They have also been making use of skype and facetime so that they can video call their relatives.
General Manager, Vicky Mallaburn said “It is vitally important that we ensure that our residents can remain in contact with their family and friends during this time. New technology is great for this purpose, but of course a good old fashioned letter is just as welcome!”
Baking club
Residents from Meadow Park enjoyed an afternoon of baking, which took them back to their younger years. Baking sessions are a popular group activity for the home and the activity had taste buds tingling as the aroma of freshly baked cup cakes wafted through the home.
The homes activities coordinator, said: “The residents enjoy spending time in the kitchen, as it not only brings back memories of their childhood, but also times when they’ve baked with their own children and grandchildren. Once all the bakes were made, we all enjoyed sitting down with a cup of tea and a home-made cake.”
Garden visit joy
There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment behind the scenes at Barchester Healthcare. Social distancing was still in place, and homes that are able to take part must have a large accessible garden. It was welcome news to so many residents, family, and friends, who were kept apart for so long following strict government guidance. Residents and their loved ones got together in the home garden and the garden was fully of joy and chatter.
Vicky Mallaburn General Manager at the home, said: “This has been a much welcomed development in what have been very strange times. The visits are safe and organised, and it was wonderful to see how happy it made the residents. We will of course endeavour to keep up the high standards of care, and continue with our ever evolving life enrichment programme, to keep residents engaged. But this was a lovely day.”
