Activities at Meadow Park Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Meadow Park Care Home

Care Assistant celebrates 10-years service

A Care Assistant at Meadow Park in Bedlington has received a prestigious 10 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years.

Lacey Milner, now Care Assistant, started at Barchester in March, 2011 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Jane McFarlane, Employee Services Director at Barchester said: “I’m always pleased to hear stories about the long service of Barchester staff and am delighted Lacey has achieved this milestone. It is dedication like this that ensures our residents are provided with a happy place to live.”

Squirrel Appreciation Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Meadow Park care home got up close and personal with some furry friends when they celebrated Squirrel Appreciation Day on 21st January.

Squirrel Appreciation Day is an annual nationwide event raising awareness of the plight of the native red squirrel population, which is in sharp decline. The aim of the event is to inspire people to take action for wildlife. The cold winter months are especially tough for animals and birds; as temperatures drop and food becomes scarce, wildlife such as squirrels need a little extra help.

Residents had a brilliant time learning about red squirrels and conservation efforts to try to restore the red squirrel population, and painting squirrels in their arts and crafts session.

Keeping active at Meadow Park

Another great day at Meadow Park!     Our residents have had lots of fun as they opted to play floor darts which is a popular favourite, followed by a quiz ball game where residents read a question out once they have caught the ball and the other residents would participate in answering the question before they were passed the ball.

What a great way to keep fit and the mind active.

Home amongst first to receive vaccinations

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Meadow Park care home, in Bedlington, were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination at the home, which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

General Manager, Vicky Mallaburn said: “Last year was a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

Pam, a resident at Meadow Park said: “I am so pleased to be given the vaccine.  It is the first step in getting things back to normal and having our families in the home once again.”

A game of dominoes

Residents enjoy a game of dominos at Meadow Park as part of their popular games afternoons. A number of residents at Meadow Park Care Home had a great time playing a game of dominos with each other and squeezed in a quick natter and a cuppa in between games.  Everyone had fun as they showed a little friendly competition each game!

Exercising the Mind, Body and Soul

Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Meadow Park.

As part of the homes life enrichment programme, the activities coordinators include firm favourite’s in the homes calendar with fun-filled adapted games that they played over the years in a safe environment!
