Activities at Meadow Park Care Home

Residents of Meadow Park have been busy making rainbows, which they have displayed in windows across the home to add a little joy to those walking past the home. The idea is that members of community display rainbows in their windows so that children can go ‘rainbow spotting’ when out for their exercise with family.

The colourful displays are brightening up everyone’s day! The Facebook group has over 90,000 members and the home is delighted to be part of the community spirit.

Residents from Meadow Park enjoyed an afternoon of baking, which took them back to their younger years. Vicky Mallaburn, Home Manager, said: “The residents enjoy spending time in the kitchen, as it not only brings back memories of their childhood, but also times when they’ve baked with their own children and grandchildren. Once all the bakes were made, we all enjoyed sitting down with a cup of tea and a home-made cake.”

To combat loneliness and isolation colleagues of Meadow Park reached out to the community as part of their extended social network to seek pen-pals of all ages reaching out to nurseries, schools and members of the community to remain connected during this difficult time.

Residents were delighted to receive colourful pictures and letters delivered to the home. Thank you for adding a little colour and sunshine to our resident’s day and for your heartfelt message.  One resident said “It was very touching to receive such nice letters from the children”, whilst another said “The pictures are lovely, bless them all”.

It is amazing how a simple letter, short story, poem or even a photo or drawing can brighten up someone’s day. The residents of Meadow Park will then reply as part of our social activity sessions. The ladies at Meadow Park recently enjoyed a beauty day at the home courtesy of the staff from the home swapping roles for the day to treat residents to hair and beauty treatments. Honouring the women residents at the home, colleagues supported with a range of beauty kits in the salon to pamper and beautify. The hospitality team at the home also served a spread of teas and cakes for all to enjoy to the delight of all!

Vicky Mallaburn, General Manager said: “It’s always a lovely treat to be pampered, and our residents deserve it. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment at the home as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents, and this one was our most fashionable fun! Living in a care home doesn’t put a stop to celebrating life, and our engaging activities are designed to be enjoyed by all who want to join in.”

The ‘Jolly Sweets Trolley’ goes around weekly, giving Meadow Park residents the opportunity to enjoy some of their favourite sweet treats. Residents are given a choice of old fashioned sweets, sugar-free sweets, chocolates and crisps. The colourful sweets trolley was built from an old medication trolley that had been out of use for a while.

The residents love seeing it get rolled out with some of their choice treats, and sometimes they will request for it to go around the home more than once a week. While going around the home with the trolley, activities catch up to ensure that everyone’s firm favourites are available, and also what kind of different activities they would like to see, as well as to let them know what has been planned for the week ahead.

The mobile trolley is very popular at Meadow Park and it's lovely to see the residents smiles as they see it rolling along.
