Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Tina Holmes
Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.
I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.
I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Meadowbeck Care Home
Music through the ages
Our homes had a brilliant time with curator Sarah Deters as she took us on a virtual ‘Music Through the Ages’ tour of St Cecilia’s Hall: Concert Room and Music Museum.
Our residents were thrilled to discover weird and wonderful musical instruments, hear their unusual sounds, and find out how instruments have changed over the last 500 years.
The virtual live event explored the world-renown collection of musical instruments on display at St Cecilia’s Hall, Scotland’s oldest concert hall.
Gin-tastic evening
Yesterday evening our residents had a 'Gin,-Tastic' time at our Gin Tasting event, where they were able to sample a range of delicious flavours.
The evening was a great success as everyone discussed their thoughts on the different flavours, which suited their tastes with either lemonade or tonic.
This was a great opportunity for our residents to socialise making the most of a lovely summers evening, for those residents who wished to stay in their rooms, they ordered their preferred tipple they could still enjoy in comfort.
The favourite tipple of the evening was the Rhubarb & ginger and Palma violet.
Magic table fun
Did you know that we can bring a bit of magic to our home through some of the most advance technological solutions to enhance our residents’ engagement?
Our residents love using our Magic Table and exploring the great variety of sensory games, which research has shown are able to have a positive effect on those living with dementia through stimulation, relaxation and reminiscence.
Village Summer Fete
A few of the residents at Meadowbeck went along to support our local church and join in the fun with our friendly neighbours at their summer fete.
They had a lovely walk around the village up to the village green where they had some delicious cream & jam scones with refreshments of their choice.
Mary said as we wandered around “there’s so many people here, its lovely to see the young children playing. Oh look that’s a lovely dog” the dog was in fact waiting on being named so we had a go between us all. Unfortunately none of us got the correct name however we had some lovely choices to choose from,
Bob said “I once had a dog named Rocco, so think I will have that name” unfortunately that name had already been taken so he chose something else, however it would come to be that that was in fact the dog’s name. We all came away hopeful that we could win on something else.
Mary managed to win on the tombola and she was thrilled with her new purse, the next dog we came across had such beautiful eyes, our residents couldn’t hold back and went on to have quite a few attempts on naming the dog. Again it wasn’t meant to be, however they had an amazing time being out in the community.
On the way back from the fete we called into the village pub and had a sneaky drink before heading back home. Bob enjoyed his orange juice and Mary enjoyed having an ice cold lemonade.
What a fantastic afternoon had by everyone that attended.
Opera performance
Our homes had a fabulous time with the talented soprano Astrid Joos from Street Theatre. Astrid spoke about a selection of famous operas and our residents were treated to performances of wonderful arias from operas well-known to all, such as ‘Giuditta’, ‘Don Giovanni’ and ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’.
It was a lovely experience, truly enjoyed by all.
Virtual event with Dr Tim Howard
Residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Dr Tim Howard, 4th generation GP, whose whole life has been about patient care, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his novel ‘Let’s Kill All The Lawyers’.
The novel is a medical fiction thriller that explores the impact of life and death events, mistakes and forgiveness, and the impact of law and justice on the day- to-day lives of ordinary people doing their best in difficult circumstances.
Residents had the chance to ask their own questions once the discussion was over and a great time was had by all.
