Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Tina Holmes
Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.
I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.
I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home
Home remember V E Day
Meadowbeck Care Home in Osbaldwick marked the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day in style by throwing a 1940s afternoon tea party to remember. The home was decorated in red, white and blue and residents and their family members enjoyed live entertainment from the multi award winning Julieanna where everyone sang along to all-time favourite war time sing along hits.
Our second chef Tim whipped up a delicious selection of freshly-baked biscuits, sandwiches, cakes and pastries for the occasion, all washed down with pots of tea and a celebratory glass of fizz to mark the occasion.
Residents observed the national two minute silence and they reminisced about their memories of VE Day and watched clips of the celebrations that took place outside Buckingham Palace and all across London.
Residents enjoy cheese tasting
Great interactions and conversations flowed at our cheese & wine evening, with tasty cheeses to try accompanied with a selection of wines to suit all individual’s preferences. These evenings are held on a monthly basis, a great way to socialise and make new friends, lovely to have friends of the home come along and join us.
Conversations by the Pond
We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.
Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.
The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.
Easter celebrations
We celebrated Easter in style with a whole host of themed activities and egg-cellent entertainment, crafts with a Easter special bingo afternoon. Our residents enjoyed decorating the home with their own crafted decorations with bunnies and Easter Bonnets, Some tuned in to the Easter service with our local church.
Our residents also had a fantastic time creating their very own no sew sock bunnies from @Oomphwellness residents enjoyed thinking up cute names for their puppets and taking them hopping off home. Residents were delighted with a special visit from our Easter Bunnies handing out chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs.
In recognition of the day, our talented chef prepared a delicious feast for all to enjoy including hot cross buns and simnel cake. As always, we’ve had an amazing time.
Movers and shakers!
Our residents love their popular musical moment sessions with Jess, as she puts us through our paces and has us busting our moves, we are soon singing along using the sensory props for our movements. There are definitely a lot of smiles and laughter along the way. We have movers and shakers and love waving the colourful scarves. Resident, Tommy said “I’ve had a great afternoon, its really cheered me up”.
The Astor's at Cliveden
Our residents came together to enjoy an exciting virtual talk courtesy of the team at National Trust Talks Service. The illustrated talk took us closer to one of Cliveden’s most famous families, the Astors. Our residents were able to discover what motivated William Waldorf Astor, America’s richest man, to purchase Cliveden in 1893 and how the estate became the centre of high society in the 1920 s and 30 s thanks to his son Waldorf and daughter in law Nancy Astor.
