Activities at Middletown Grange Care Home

We aim to provide a variety of activities that will both mentally and physically stimulate the people we support. Residents have a range of different needs and interests, and it is crucial that these are reflected in the activities available, so that each individual is able to participate to the best of their ability. We organise both group and individual social events that everyone is welcome to take part in; there is a weekly outing to local places of interest, including the garden centre and the local farms, parks and museums. In addition, we enjoy regular visits from entertainers and even exotic animals. We also host events such as 'Beach Day' that relatives and friends are encouraged to participate in. Getting involved in charities is a big part of our ethos, so events such as 'PJs for Pudsey' and pirate-themed days are regularly hosted to raise money for different foundations, including the Alzheimer’s Society.

Life at Middletown Grange Care Home

,

National Puzzle Day

Residents attempted a puzzle for National Puzzle Day, and one person recounted the time that she completed a back to front puzzle, where the picture was a mirror image. Luckily we went for the easy type, which soon had relatives, visitors and staff participating.

,

Open Day Success

Staff and residents helped put on a show during our open day. We presented a concentrated look into what Middletown has to offer from, from person-centred care, good nutritious food and meaningful activities.

Flower Arts and Crafts

Flower Arts and Crafts

It may not be the season for blooms but the residents were marvelling over the tissue paper flowers they were able to make with assistance from staff.

,

Braille Challenge

Residents and visitors learnt about the language Braille on World Braille Day. We learnt about Louis Braille and how he developed the skill when he lost his sight due to infection. We then had the challenge set of translating well known song lyrics from Braille into English and even had a little sing song once we found out what they were. Younger visitors even made a few Braille questions for the residents who thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.

,

New Year's Party

Residents and staff came together to celebrate New Year’s after a request was made at residents meeting to have a few games and drinks for New Year’s rather than a big party. We organised a buffet for supper, set up a bar and had a friendly game of pool. At the end we celebrated a Mock midnight saying cheers and singing Old Lang Syne and wishing one resident a happy birthday!

Local Beavers visit to sing carols

The local Beaver group for the Witney Buttercross Scout group came to visit for an evening of carol singing. Residents and kids joined together to sing 'Silent Night', 'Away in a Manger' and 'The 12 Days of Christmas'. They had a surprise for one resident who was made a honorary beaver leader after reciting the beaver promise and receiving a Necker, this resident was once also a scout and once camped on Brownsea Island. After having a refreshing glass of squash and a spiced biscuit the beavers returned to their homes after an eventful evening.
