Activities at Mortain Place Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Alex Leftley
I was working in the print trade when a friend of mine became very unwell and I had to find a nursing home for her. Due to the dedication of the staff, my friend had another 18 months and I was able to take her out after being house bound for many years.
I felt that I wanted to do a job that made a difference and became a carer. I went back to school and redone my GCSE,s and then went onto do my level 3 diploma and am always enhancing my skills and knowledge. I came to Mortain Place as a senior carer on Normandy Gardens and worked my way up to Community Lead. I have chosen to move to the activities team to help support the life enrichment programme and help improve the life experience’s of our residents.

Life at Mortain Place Care Home
Our 5th Birthday Bash!
We have recently had the pleasure of celebrating our 5th Birthday!!
We had a wonderful afternoon with staff and residents, along with their families and local business connections! Residents done flower arranging in the morning so we could decorate the home with their creations, our chef Mia created a beautiful cake and buffet, and we had swing sensation Steve Dunnett performing for a 2 hour special.
We also gave Ingrida, Faye, Stacey and Kelly a bouquet of flowers each and thanked them for their loyalty, after being in the home since it opened in October 2019.
It was a truly special day.
Off to Hilliers...
Some of our lovely ladies fancied a trip to Hillier's garden centre.
When we arrived, we had a look around the delicious home made jams and curds, then done a bit of retail therapy browsing their clothing ranges and gift shop followed by a tasty frothy coffee and cake.
After our coffee's we went outside to take a look at the beautiful array of flowers and plants then got back to Mortain Place just in time for lunch.
Oh we do like to be beside the seaside
Absolutely Quackers
Ollie's Army Garden & Landscaping kindly donated a beautiful wooden home for our feathered friends to sleep in.
When Ollie came and said about building a larger home for the ducks, he came up with the idea of making it a time capsule as well. Every resident of Mortain Place, who was here on the day, has their initials put in the concrete, so a lasting piece of history of our residents.
Our ducks and chickens are very happy here at Mortain, thank you Ollie and Ryden!
Starlight Stroll
We were extremely grateful to be able to take part in this years Starlight Stroll in aid of St Wilfrids Hospice.
We walked 5 miles along Eastbourne seafront with over 800 other participants. The sun was setting, and people were dedicated to make it to Holywell and back to Prince's Park.
Well done to all who took part!
A visit from Poppy
We have a new regular visitor here at Mortain Place. The sweetest little teacup chihuahua, Poppy.
Poppy is 2 and a half years old and has brought so much joy to staff and residents. We look forward to seeing her and her owner Bernie each week.
Animals bring so much happiness to our residents, so little Poppy will be a regular fixture, as well as our giant furry friend, Hudson.
