Activities at Mortain Place Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Alex Leftley
I was working in the print trade when a friend of mine became very unwell and I had to find a nursing home for her. Due to the dedication of the staff, my friend had another 18 months and I was able to take her out after being house bound for many years.
I felt that I wanted to do a job that made a difference and became a carer. I went back to school and redone my GCSE,s and then went onto do my level 3 diploma and am always enhancing my skills and knowledge. I came to Mortain Place as a senior carer on Normandy Gardens and worked my way up to Community Lead. I have chosen to move to the activities team to help support the life enrichment programme and help improve the life experience’s of our residents.

Cheese and Wine tasting
Our residents really enjoyed a Cheese and Wine tasting session along with a cheesy quiz to get the them all thinking. After the Cheese and Wine the residents relaxed in front of a film. The perfect Saturday night.
Residents make daffodils for St Davids Day
We got creative in the build up to St Davids Day by making our own daffodils in preparation for tomorrows celebrations. There were lots of laughs, lots of cups of tea and an enthusiastic team to get the residents in the mood.
Coco the rabbit visits Mortain Place
Residents were thrilled to have a visit from Coco the rabbit this week. Coco made himself at home very quickly and was loving all the attention he received from our residents and team members.
A very busy morning for Coco getting around to meet all of our residents meant that after lunch, he was fast asleep and looked very contented.
Employee of the Month
We are pleased to announce that our Employee of the Month for January is David Benson.
David works alongside our Maintenance Manager to support with all odd jobs around the home and takes pride in making sure the garden is looking great.
David was nominated by several residents and team members for his willingness to help out around the home. Congratulations Dave from all at Mortain Place.
International Darwin Day
To celebrate International Darwin Day, our residents got creative with some Darwin themed arts and crafts in our activity room. We also discussed our thoughts about Charles Darwin and the impact he had on the modern world.
For those residents that wanted a more relaxing afternoon, we had a pampering day so had a session of nail care while listening to relaxing music.
Making someones Valentines day
Our residents enjoyed an afternoon of card making. With Valentines day just around the corner, we thought it would be a lovely idea to make our own Valentines cards along with some treats prepared by our Chef to deliver to the local community on Valentines day to let them know that they are loved.
With the cards now ready and Chef set to bake some tasty treats, we are looking forward to going into the community on Valentines day to give out a little bit of love.
