Activities at Mortain Place Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Alex Leftley

Activities Coordinator

I was working in the print trade when a friend of mine became very unwell and I had to find a nursing home for her. Due to the dedication of the staff, my friend had another 18 months and I was able to take her out after being house bound for many years.

I felt that I wanted to do a job that made a difference and became a carer. I went back to school and redone my GCSE,s and then went onto do my level 3 diploma and am always enhancing my skills and knowledge. I came to Mortain Place as a senior carer on Normandy Gardens and worked my way up to Community Lead. I have chosen to move to the activities team to help support the life enrichment programme and help improve the life experience’s of our residents.

Indigenous Celebrations

Residents at Mortain Place love to learn and explore other cultures, so enjoyed an Indigenous-themed party, where we listened to different music and enjoyed some different foods and drinks.

Pet Pals

Residents were super happy to welcome back Pet Pals into our home.

We were able to individually meet and pet this special guest who bought us lots of joy and laughter.

Sensory stimulation and contact with animals always has a positive effect and is a regular part of our life enrichment programme.

Art Class

Here at Mortain Place, we have a lot of talented residents who enjoy the therapeutic aspect of art and love to see the end result. We encourage each individuals talents and hobbies and art was a reoccurring interest for many. We have weekly art sessions including mindfulness colouring, oil painting and paint by numbers.

A Walk Through History

Residents at Mortain Place loved the Blenheim Palace virtual experience so much that we asked for another. We were able to see the grounds and learn about how much the gardens have developed over the last 300 years!

Piano Donation

We are delighted to receive a piano via donation here at Mortain Place. It has brought so much joy and happiness to our residents and we will continue to share with each other all our memories.

The Body Shop

Sharon Brennan is a Body Shop consultant in Eastbourne. She contacted Mortain Place because she is hosting a raffle; the prize was £25 of Body Shop products. Well done to our winner, Cate!
