Activities at Mount House and Severn View
Our Activities team is a dedicated group whom strive to ensure that the residents of Mount House have a broad range of meaningful activities daily which reflect the needs, wants and interests of all our residents. From our larger events including Garden Parties in our spectacular grounds to birthday celebrations with live musical entertainment we always have a broad range of events to suit all of our wonderful residents. We also go on a number of outings throughout the year in and around Shropshire, many of which are linked to community organisations whom cater specifically for interests of the people we support.
Something we have always been passionate about here at The Mount is Music therapy and we offer a diverse musical programme of live music and entertainers throughout the year to suit all tastes. Food theme days and tasting afternoons, as well as regular Cookery classes and chair yoga are on offer as well as beauty therapy and massage.
We aim to consistently provide a high quality activities programme for all of our residents and ensure that regardless of limitations and circumstances each individual has the best possible experience within our home, through both a physical and mentally stimulating person-centred approach.
Joyce Morgan
Hello I am Joyce the Activities Coordinator. I am new to the care sector having worked as a florist with my own business and I am loving this change of direction. I am committed to ensuring the residents have a varied activities programme as well celebrating events. I am following the Barchester Life Enrichment Programme of working with mind, body and soul. I do also love to dance with the residents when we have an entertainer in!

Life at Mount House and Severn View
Dignity Tree
The Dignity Tree was created by the home’s Manager, Claire Cowper and our certified Dignity Champion, Claire Anslow whom are both so passionate about this subject. The Dignity Tree is displayed within our home and as a whole-team approach, staff proudly held up leaves with a significant word to describe what dignity means to them.
The main ones were: choice, values & beliefs, compassion, empathy, respect, person-centred.
The tree is extremely important to us, because dignity is listening to what they want, giving them information, involving them in planning and decision-making, treating them with dignity and respect, and enabling them to have choice and control over their lives and the services they receive.
Those who provide support will respect the human rights of each individual.
Christmas Crafts
With the lead up to Christmas, the activities programme has at least one Christmas-themed event per day!
We love to get into the festive spirit at Mount House, and our residents love to show off their artistic side with the daily living activities and arts & crafts.
Vintage Tea Party
Residents at Mount House always look forward to our weekly vintage tea parties! A cup of tea/coffee, a delicious slice of homemade cake and a natter is always the best!
Join us every Thursday between 3pm and 4pm. All welcome!
Remembrance Sunday
In preparations for Remembrance Sunday, the activities team and the residents at the Mount House & Severn View have created two beautiful murals within our home. Residents have spent the last few days making poppies with tissue paper & buttons filling the arch way in the main lounge and have also created larger poppies to go with the Lest we Forget mast and flag.
Remembrance Sunday has a very special place in the Mount House & Severn View’s heart.
Halloween Party
Residents, relatives, staff and children at the Mount House & Severn View thoroughly enjoyed the Spooktacular Halloween party on Thursday 31st October! From apple bobbing to a fabulous fancy dress competition, everyone at the Mount House enjoyed the day.
Our head chef Steffi created a gory-themed Halloween menu and a buffet-style tea for our residents. We also had a fancy dress competition for the best dressed!
We are now rated 'Good'!
We passed a recent Care Quality Commission inspection with an overall “Good” rating after being praised for a responsive, safe, effective, caring and well-led service.
The CQC inspected us on 3rd September 2019 (the report was released on 18th September 2019) and rated us as “Good” overall.
The report stated that “People received help and support from a kind and compassionate staff team with whom they had developed positive relationships.”
The report went on to say, “People received safe support with their medicines by trained and competent staff members”
Also highlighted in the report was “People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems at The Mount & Severn View supported this practice.”
In celebration of the rating and to thank each member of the team for their contributions to the home, each team member was presented with £100 gift voucher in appreciation of their hard work.
Claire Cowper, General Manager, said: “We are delighted that our home was rated ‘Good’ overall following the CQC’s most recent inspection. The team at the Mount House & Severn View always strive to provide the best possible quality care for everyone who lives at the home.”
