Our Activities team is a dedicated group whom strive to ensure that the residents of Mount House have a broad range of meaningful activities daily which reflect the needs, wants and interests of all our residents. From our larger events including Garden Parties in our spectacular grounds to birthday celebrations with live musical entertainment we always have a broad range of events to suit all of our wonderful residents. We also go on a number of outings throughout the year in and around Shropshire, many of which are linked to community organisations whom cater specifically for interests of the people we support.

Something we have always been passionate about here at The Mount is Music therapy and we offer a diverse musical programme of live music and entertainers throughout the year to suit all tastes. Food theme days and tasting afternoons, as well as regular Cookery classes and chair yoga are on offer as well as beauty therapy and massage.
We aim to consistently provide a high quality activities programme for all of our residents and ensure that regardless of limitations and circumstances each individual has the best possible experience within our home, through both a physical and mentally stimulating person-centred approach.

Life at Mount House and Severn View

It's the little things...

Mount House received a very heartfelt message from Tracey Stevens, Store Manager, and her team at Dunelm in Shrewsbury, who wanted to donate something special to our home.

Tracey arrived to donate items to make our staff room more comfortable and a place for our staff to have a well-deserved break. We received mugs, bean bags, a toastie maker and other items. Dunelm also kindly donated 12 beautiful printed fleeces for our residents. In the hamper there was a note to say ‘Just to say a big! Thank you J for all your work, we will always need people like you to take care of our loved ones. We are forever grateful’.

Nutrition and hydration week with help from Tesco

The Mount House care home in Shrewsbury celebrated the week with wholesome food and thirst quenching beverages.

Community Champions Rachel Benson and Rachel Owen from Tesco Extra in Shrewsbury visited the home to donate a healthy and nutritious basket which included fresh fruit, jellies, smoothies and fresh vegetables.

During next week the home has devised an exciting, challenging and fun week of activities, meetings and competitions.

Care workers at the home always team up with hospitality staff to ensure each resident’s dietary requirements and care needs are met. Increasing knowledge of the importance of nutrition and hydration among residents and staff is something that is key to maintaining and improving a person’s wellbeing.

Our chefs always speak with the residents they cook for to find out more about their likes and dislikes, suggesting new dishes and ingredients for everyone to try. A taste test has been arranged alongside with a delicious fresh-fruit board by Steffi Pritchard, Head Chef to get residents trying new and exciting flavours.

Claire Cowper, General Manager at the home, said “Chefs are trained to meet our residents’ specific dietary requirements and enhance wellbeing by providing a varied selection of dishes. In addition to being trained in how to cook delicious and well prepared food, the chefs are trained in nutritional balance and special diets with lots of thought going into menu planning.”

60th Wedding Anniversary , Cutting the cake

Home residents celebrate 60 years together!

A couple from the Mount House and Severn View care home, in Shrewsbury have celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Tony and Dorothy Mathews first met in Liverpool in March 1960 and it was love at first sight. They have spent many fantastic years together, leading on to having four children, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends came to the Mount House and Severn View care home to celebrate the couple’s special anniversary with staff and residents. The home arranged a party to celebrate this special day including a home-made buffet and Bucks Fizz by our Head Chef.

General Manager, Claire Cowper at the Mount House and Severn View said: “We have had such a lovely day celebrating Tony & Dots’ 60th Wedding anniversary. It’s so wonderful to see two people still very much in love after all these years!”

Flippin' great Pancake Day

The staff and residents at The Mount House and Severn View care home were flipping and turning pancakes all morning in preparation for their annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race. Steffi the head chef at the home, flipped more than 100 pancakes, serving them up with the sweetest of fillings. The rainy weather didn't halt the celebrations as staff turned one of the dining rooms into the course; a winning team effort and smiles all round.

Valentine's Day

On the eve of The Mount House and Severn View's annual Valentines Ball, General Manager; Claire Cowper has taken the time out to visit local florists and purchase as many beautiful red roses as she could to gift to each of our lovely residents.

Romance is truly in the air throughout the home. The activities team and students Jess and Holly from  Shrewsbury College Health and Social care have been helping our residents craft heart garlands and create decorative cakes.

This year is extra special as we have four couples residing at The Mount, each looking forward to their very own candlelit dinner for two. The whole home looks as if it were lifted straight out of a romantic novel.

Burns Night

Burns Night

On Saturday 25th January the residents at Mount House and Severn View celebrated burns night!

For lunch we had a traditional Scottish meal cooked by our chef Jason of Neeps, Tattis & Haggis! Washed down with wee drams of scotch.

The residents then had several conversations about Scottish poet Robert Burns. Prior to this date, the residents made Scottish shields and decorated the home with bunting.
