Activities at Mount House and Severn View

Our Activities team is a dedicated group whom strive to ensure that the residents of Mount House have a broad range of meaningful activities daily which reflect the needs, wants and interests of all our residents. From our larger events including Garden Parties in our spectacular grounds to birthday celebrations with live musical entertainment we always have a broad range of events to suit all of our wonderful residents. We also go on a number of outings throughout the year in and around Shropshire, many of which are linked to community organisations whom cater specifically for interests of the people we support.

Something we have always been passionate about here at The Mount is Music therapy and we offer a diverse musical programme of live music and entertainers throughout the year to suit all tastes. Food theme days and tasting afternoons, as well as regular Cookery classes and chair yoga are on offer as well as beauty therapy and massage.
We aim to consistently provide a high quality activities programme for all of our residents and ensure that regardless of limitations and circumstances each individual has the best possible experience within our home, through both a physical and mentally stimulating person-centred approach.

Joyce Morgan

Hello I am Joyce the Activities Coordinator.  I am new to the care sector having worked as a florist with my own business and I am loving this change of direction.  I am committed to ensuring the residents have a varied activities programme as well celebrating events.  I am following the Barchester Life Enrichment Programme of working with mind, body and soul.  I do also love to dance with the residents when we have an entertainer in!

Life at Mount House and Severn View

Make a Wish

Just over a month ago, a wish tree was created at Mount House & Severn View. Each resident was asked to put a ‘wish’ on a heart and hang it on the tree.

Hazel’s wish was to plant and name a rose in memory of her husband – The Ivor Rose. Emma, Activities Coordinator and Dave, Head of Maintenance, have made this wish come true by purchasing a certain rose for Hazel to plant in her husband’s memory. This was presented to her whilst video calling her family and the rose now sits outside her bedroom window.

Fancy Dress

Every day is a different day at the Mount House and Severn View. On May 4th, we had a Star Wars-themed fancy dress day, and the following week we had a fancy dress competition! The residents found our outfits very amusing! From a banana in pyjamas to a giant inflating unicorn, the staff always manage to put a smile on our residents' faces!

VE Day

On the day of the 8th May, our residents celebrated Victory in Europe Day. The day was full of fun, laughter and celebrating including a delicious spread of sandwiches, jam and cream scones and other foods. One of our residents played Vera Lynn’s famous ‘We’ll Meet Again’ whilst others sang along.

Easter Bonnet Making

Residents spent the Easter weekend making beautiful bonnets! Our residents are very artistic and love arts and crafts sessions.

Time for Tea!

We celebrated the Queen’s birthday at the Mount House and Severn View on Tuesday 21st April 2020. Our Head Chef, Steffi, and the kitchen team, made our residents and staff a delicious buffet, including sandwiches, home-mades cake and hydrating drinks. The home was decorated with Union Jack decorations, and we had a party to celebrate the Queen’s birthday.

It's the little things...

Mount House received a very heartfelt message from Tracey Stevens, Store Manager, and her team at Dunelm in Shrewsbury, who wanted to donate something special to our home.

Tracey arrived to donate items to make our staff room more comfortable and a place for our staff to have a well-deserved break. We received mugs, bean bags, a toastie maker and other items. Dunelm also kindly donated 12 beautiful printed fleeces for our residents. In the hamper there was a note to say ‘Just to say a big! Thank you J for all your work, we will always need people like you to take care of our loved ones. We are forever grateful’.
