Activities at Mount Vale Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from PAT dogs, entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Louise Chapman
Hi my name is Louise I have been working at Mount Vale since 2010. I am the activities co-ordinator, I am here to promote the wellbeing of our residents and ensure they have a variety of activities to get involved in. I love finding new creative ways to engage our residents and involve our local community.
I am a dementia champion for the home and enjoy continuing to learn and find more things I can do to help promote the wellbeing of our residents.
I love spending time with each individual getting to know them so I can add individual needs into our plans. I love building strong relationships with our residents and families.
I am a crafty person and can be found doing diamond arts and lots of other creative things when I am not at work. I love spending time with my family and going for walks with my dog Dottie and cuddling my cat Loki.

Life at Mount Vale Care Home
Local students attend Health & Safety talk
Mount Vale hosted a Health & Safety Awareness afternoon for students at Northallerton School & Sixth Form College who are studying Health & Social care. Mount Vale host yearly awareness afternoons to enlighten the students about the dangers you might find within a care home. Deputy Manager, Joanne Stokes, altered a bedroom to show all the different hazards staff always have to look out for, from doors being left open on cupboards, to wet floors and items on the floor.
Students from the college walked around the home on the lookout for other potential hazards before walking into the bedroom full of them. Some students were shocked at the amount of potential hazards and didn’t realise that some of those things could be a danger to an elderly person.
A student from Northallerton School & Sixth Form College said, “It was great to look around and see all the items that could be a hazard. I definitely learnt more. Thank you for this great opportunity.”
Meet and Greet with our local community office
Today, we held a meet and great with our local police community support workers. Dougie joined us to give us a talk about all sorts of topics and spent time answering questions about the Herbert protocol, scams, and speeding. Giving us all the new up to date information that we didn't know and we found it very interesting.
We even did some reminiscing about how policing used to be. There are leaflets available at Mount Vale to help support anyone with what we discussed. Thank you so much for coming and joining us.
Local farm donate to our sensory garden
Staff and residents at Mount Vale care home in Northallerton have been kindly donated a variety of painted rocks from Monk Park Farm for their sensory garden.
Monk Park Farm, in Thirsk have been attempting to break the Guinness world record by creating the world’s longest caterpillar with painted stones. The stones which were decorated by local families and children have beautiful, bright, colourful designs painted on rocks of all different shapes and sizes. Unfortunately, even with all their hard work, they were just shy of the record meaning they wanted to put them to good use.
The General Manager of the home, Trudi Gillespie said “What a kind donations of these amazing rocks, they are so spectacular and are a great addition into our sensory garden.”
Virtual trip to Cornish Seal Sanctuary
A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event today!

Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.
National Emergency Services Day
In honour of National Emergency Services Day this happening this month our staff and residents thought it would be a good idea to give back to our local ambulance crews. Who work very hard and are a very supportive towards our lovely home. This morning we visited Northallerton Ambulance Station to hand out homemade cakes, crisps and goodie bags with homemade items added into it, to our local paramedics and ambulance staff as a thank you for the wonderful work they do to support our community.
Pyjama Day 2024
Staff all dressed up on their pyjamas. Residents loved seeing everyone been individual and standing out from the crowd.
They were delighted to see the different colours, patterns, and spending time talking about the fabrics and how things have changed over the years.
Even at the age of 94, our oldest resident Reg is surrounded by his wife Julie and staff. Julie maintains that Reg is still a 'babe magnet'
