Activities at Mount Vale Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from PAT dogs, entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Louise Chapman
Hi my name is Louise I have been working at Mount Vale since 2010. I am the activities co-ordinator, I am here to promote the wellbeing of our residents and ensure they have a variety of activities to get involved in. I love finding new creative ways to engage our residents and involve our local community.
I am a dementia champion for the home and enjoy continuing to learn and find more things I can do to help promote the wellbeing of our residents.
I love spending time with each individual getting to know them so I can add individual needs into our plans. I love building strong relationships with our residents and families.
I am a crafty person and can be found doing diamond arts and lots of other creative things when I am not at work. I love spending time with my family and going for walks with my dog Dottie and cuddling my cat Loki.

Life at Mount Vale Care Home
Elvis is in the Building!
Today we were visited by Chris Gilly. Who came to sing for us. Chris decided to honour Elvis this time and do a full on Elvis number 1's show. We heard lots of different song we love, such as Hunk of love, hound dog, wonder of you, Jail house rock and suspicious minds.
Care home gets crafty for charity
Staff and residents at Mount Vale Care Home in Northallerton have spent time making pens and keychains for a local Macmillan charity event. Arosa caravan and camping park in Scarborough are holding a Macmillan event on Saturday 24th August to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Sarah Van Der Merwe, Administrator, at Mount Vale has an amazing connection with those throughout the home. Sarah has spent her weekends entertaining at Arosa caravan and camping park for many years so when she heard about the fundraising efforts she asked staff and residents if they would like to get involved. Staff and residents created ‘Disney’ inspired pens to sell at the event with all proceeds going to Macmillan.
Sarah Van Der Merwe, Administrator, said: “I knew when I heard of the fundraising efforts our staff and residents at Mount Vale would love to support. I am so proud to be part of such a fantastic team of staff and residents”
Home celebrate 10-years long service
A housekeeping assistant at Mount Vale has received a prestigious Long Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 15 years.
Carol Watson, housekeeping assistant, started at Barchester in 2009 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.
Adele Keenan, Employee Services Director at Barchester said: “I’m always pleased to hear stories about the long service of Barchester staff and am delighted Carol has achieved this milestone. It is dedication like this that ensures our residents are provided with a happy place to live.”
Musical Afternoon with Dementia Forward
This afternoon we attended an Musical afternoon tea in aid of Dementia Forward. We joined people from local community in Northallerton town hall for live music performed by Paula Marie.
We listened to music from the 40s, 50s and 60s. We were encouraged to join in and sing along. Which we love doing. Residents and staff taking to the dance floor showing off their moves. We heard some of our favourite songs from Elvis, Abba and The Beatles.
We enjoyed freshly made tea and coffee. Plates of cakes including home made cream scones.
We even got some raffle tickets but weren't very lucky this time.
Thank you so much to the Dementia forward team for hosting this event.
Animal Visit
What a beautiful day Aqua Finatics came to join us in our amazing garden for an hour of animals.
We got to meet Tulula the tortoise who loved been out in our garden walking around hiding herself in plants. Janice the Hen who loved been stroked by the residents before running around the garden.
We got the chance to stroke Mumba the ring snake. Getting a chance to meet Moo the mouse for the first time. So tiny and cute.
We got a surprise visit from Victor the Tegu, wow what an amazing animal he was so soft to stroke. He definitely approved of the weather spending time lying in the sun.
Then we got an amazing chance to name a Mini lop rabbit. The residents settled on Floss. So tiny and fluffy.
Not to forget Bailey the Dog, who loved all the fuss and cuddles he got.
Thank you to the team at Finatics for joining us and bringing the beautiful animals
